Just curious: if you were offered a seat at a D&D campaign table, but there was a "humans only" rule for PCs, would you play. Assume all other things being equal -- it's a GM you know and trust, no other major limitations are presented, and it is going to otherwise be a "typical" D&D campaign of the sort you prefer.

I am actually DM-ing such a campaign, set in 16th century England right now. The magic and D&D elements enter the game through the encroachment of the Feywild. I never really approached it as an "all human" campaign, as I did have an aasimar and brownie (I created the 5th edition racial specs at the player's request) among the PCs early on, both of those characters got replaced a year or so ago with humans because of the players' desires. Anyway, it is not an issue for anyone involved.

I'm aiming for more of a post-Roman Britain feel, with the horror and wonder beyond The Wall.

A friend of mine is planning to start just a campaign in the Fall. I was gonna play a gnome and he was gonna make an exception for me - but when I read more about the setting, my being a gnome felt off, so I scrapped my original character idea and said I will make whatever kind of human fills whatever gap needs filling once everyone else had made a character because I can have fun playing anything.

Yes, I have already.
But I'd never as a first campaign with a DM.
Extreme restrictions or big themes are things I would have to know the DM can handle well first.

I'm considering doing just this in my next campaign which I'm thinking will have a much more fairytale like theme, so elves, dwarves, gnomes, etc. would all be NPCs and the PCs would be all human.
This is what I have done for my current OSR mini-campaign, even if not much of a fairytale ATM, but I wanted demi-humans to be their own thing to discover during play.

I don't see why not. I am fine with playing with ANY character restriction the DM wants. In many cases, it might actually make me play something I haven't thought of playing before, although that's not the case here.
