FR, hands down, no contest.
I'd really like it to be anything else, but like GW and ultramarines, WotC's staked themselves to the ground with FR.
What do you mean they staked themselves to the ground?

Ed Greenwood has also been working with several folks on publishing new material for FR on the DMsGuild, so not sure if Eberron is really unique there.
The difference is, D&D 5e core designers need to officially revamp the lineages, including changing the ability score generation and introducing the various drow ethnicities. It appears they are using the default FR setting to implement this. Probably at some point in the future, a separate core book will consolidate everything.
In addition, both FR designers and Eberron designers are adding world content via DMsGuild, but this relates less to the needs of core.
The vampiric variant of "nailed their foot to the floor". Basically, they've grown too attached to FR, in an unflattering way and refuse to let it die. What do you mean they staked themselves to the ground?

Less drastic. I view it more of a reorganization of things that already exist, than actually anything new. For example, moving the ability score improvements from lineage to generation. So the FR book would basically be the update until a official 5.5e or 6e. Yeah I think so too.
That's pretty good point: the implied time-frame from Winninger for an early development return yo a Setting is about right for a movie tie in.Y'all missing something. There is a D&D movie on the way, and I have no doubt WotC are already planning their tie-in in products. Any return to the FR is likely to be in the context of a movie tie-in, and therefore will likely focus on the Neverwinter/Waterdeep region, with whatever changes the movie makes.
Maybe some of the older folks here, but I sure hope FR doesn't outlive me, I'm not even 20 yet! If WotC (or whatever company is making D&D then) is still publishing FR material when I'm on my death-bed, I swear that I will make a pact with the Raven Queen to let me become a Revenant to kill that bloated setting once and for all!FR will out live us all.
I mean, it's nearly 60 years old and seems to only be getting started. I wouldn't bet on outlining it.Maybe some of the older folks here, but I sure hope FR doesn't outlive me, I'm not even 20 yet! (I don't actually hate the FR, I just prefer other settings, most notably Exandria and Eberron, and think that it is too bloated and problematic for modern D&D.)
