As revealed by Nerd Immersion by deciphering computer code from D&D Beyond!

Fizban the Fabulous is, of course, the accident-prone, befuddled alter-ego of Dragonlance’s god of good dragons, Paladine, the platinum dragon (Dragonlance’s version of Bahamut).

Which makes my guess earlier this year spot on!

UPDATE -- the book now has a description!

Heh, I would love to see a reboot War of the Lance. If they set it in later era DL, I think I'll pass.

One thing I always wanted to run but never got the chance was the board game that came with one of the modules - DL 11(?) where you could play out the War of the Lance as a war-game. They even suggested that you then combine the board game with the modules so that the events of the war-game became playable events in the campaign. I thought it was such a FANTASTIC idea. If you expanded that concept even further, you'd have an endlessly replayable module where the group plays out the board game and then zooms down to the PC level and plays out the resolution of events in the board game. The board game then moves forward based on the resolution of what happened in the RPG.

I always thought that would make an unbelievably cool campaign.
I think straight-up reboot may cause some backlash amongst the diehard Dragonlance fans, some of whom may see it as invalidating the shelves of books they have. So then the question is whether the potential new fans could make up for the percentage of old fans who abandon it. Without a flux capacitor I can't really predict how many would dump and how many would be new.

If the D&D player base today is multiple times the size it was in the 1980s, which we've been told multiple times is true, that's not an impossible hurdle to get over, especially since there are plenty of long-time players who agree that Krynn needs a reboot or some other reset.

They did a straight-up reboot and more for Ravenloft and everyone seemed to love it (and I was repeatedly shouted down on these boards for not being a fan)

Most DnD players are new and wouldn't have heard of Dragonlance. They won't know things have changed. And the old fans giving a backlash will just be a small minority that is easily dismissed and ignored, because they're no longer the target audience of DnD or the people WizCo is marketing books towards

Hell. If they reboot it entirely that will ensure I buy it.
Both because I enjoyed DL as a kid AND because I find the howls of despair from certain elements of the community absolutely delicious.
