D&D 5E Fizban's Treasury: The Dragon Book Now Has A Description... And A Feat

Courtesy of Amazon, we now have a description for Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, the October D&D hardcover. The book introduces gem dragons, dragon-themed player options, and plenty of draconic lore! This joins September's The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and November's Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos.

At D&D Live this weekend, WotC will be revealing a lot more about all three books. It will be interesting to see if the Dragonlance-themed title means the book has Dragonlance content (I'm hoping for dragonlances and draconians, at least), and whether it settles that old argument of whether Paladine and Takhisis are actually Bahamut and Tiamat, or merely inspired by them.

(Warning: Dragonlance Chronicles spoilers in the cover text, if you haven't read those novels yet!)

A couple of random thoughts:
  • IIRC At least one of Hickman and Weis insisted that Paladine and Takhisis were not Bahamut and Tiamat. I wonder if Wizards is going to stick with that or decide to retcon that so that it's what pretty much everyone else thinks. ;)
  • Anyone else sad that dragonnes didn't make the cut for things to include in the dragon book? They were one of my favorite monsters growing up, probably just because they had an LJN toy. I always thought they were pretty cool as a concept, though. I think the last official dragonne statblock was in 3.5e...? (not counting Pathfinder)

Who says there are no Draggones?? They have a complete Dragon bestiary in there, and I see o reason to see why they would have the Dracohydra but not the Dragonne?

Fair enough. I might be jumping the gun there after seeing mentions of tons of other things. I'm assuming that we'll get some of the other chromatic and metallic dragons from editions past. I can continue to hope for dragonnes, but I'm not confident on that, just from them having been entirely skipped over in 4E. (kinda the same way I wonder if they had a giant-focused book would, say, athaches show up in that 🤔)

Dragonnes are actually the heraldic symbol for one of the Dragonmark Houses in Eberron, so they have been mentioned in 4E and 5E. I bet we'll see them here. There were in excess of a hundred stats blocks in Volos's and Mordenkeinen's each, and most were not spoiled this far in advance. I don't expect Dragonnes to be as central as Gem Dragons, but I bet we will get a write-up, picture, and stat block.

Here's hoping! :fingers-crossed: :)

Even better if we get a new dragonne mini. Again, the Wizards of the Coast version left a lot to be desired. I still bought, like, 6 of them off eBay, but the unpainted metal ones I got from Reaper and Ral Partha were so much better looking, even without the paint.
