I'm a bit biased. I went to get my rules cylopedia autographed and instead Jeff Easley opened it up and drew a dragon on it.

According to the original artists he also doesn't exist. He was their version of Alan Smithee when they had to use art they weren't proud of. The cover of Endless Stair was the prime example I was given.

So a non-existent artist has outlasted Brom. Hmm...perhaps there are some flaws in this survivor format

According to his website he worked for TSR for a decade and spent one year with WotC after they bought the company. He now works as a freelancer and has, among other things, done a bunch of concept art for computer games, including the DnD MMO.

I think he's real!

Well, and cleaning up is Frazetta, who—although I love him and feel he is likely the best artist of the bunch—never actually did an illustration for Dungeons and Dragons. (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but the one image posted above was one of his Lord of the Rings illustrations and was apparently used in a fan-made rules compilation.)
