D&D 5E D&D Books Delayed By The Shipocalypse

The global shipping crisis continues to affect the tabletop gaming industry. After the Rules Expansion Gift Set was pushed from December to January due to production delays, WotC has announced that Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, and Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos will be delayed. Fizban is delayed a week, and Strixhaven is delayed 3 weeks.

If this is not fixed soon food and other necessary things can't be sent to other nations, and this is very bad.

People starting to hoard stuff like TP, bottled water etc. again isnt going to help. Seems yet again its an every man/women for themselves mentality. I was at a big box store yesterday and people are losing their minds, buying pallets of Cheerios, tanker trucks of Pepsi and mile rolls of paper towels. SMH. Im more worried about the impending "Baconocalypse".

This is just a massive readjustment, triggered by Corona, but something that has been building up for decades, since the 70's, over bad economic policies. It will be rough, BUT once we are through this dark age, we will be in a renaissance and I am excited for it! It will likely take 4 to 5 years, roughly for that to happen, alot of stuff has to happen first.

Surprisingly, Corona is not actually the primary reason for the shipping crisis, though it's a big second factor.

The primary reason shipping is so messed up is due to that one ship plugging the Suez canal for so long. When it eventually got unstuck, it caused the backlog of ships flowing through the Suez to all arrive at ports the same time as the ships who decided to go around Africa. That huge glut of ships arriving at ports at the same time (ports that were understaffed due to Corona) has caused knock-off effects everywhere, as gluts of ships have no shifted to other regions.

Anyway, for things to go "back to normal" probably doesn't require as much systemic change as you would think (though it does require time). Though it's definitely not good that one ship getting stuck can derail the shipping industry so easily.

I think Corona is a convienient excuse for alot of things. Do I have statistics or information to back that up, no but its just my opinion.

It was about 6 days, but it delayed about $10 billion in trade.

The supply chain crisis is not caused by the blockage, as some things like semi-conductors are due to factories being shut down due to COVID. But the knock-off shipping effects are still mostly derived from this single ship blockage, which is exacerbating other problems. So the book delays, mostly due to Suez, not COVID.

Thats what I thought was 6 days. Scary that this is still having an impact 7 months later. Hope they work on contingencies going forward.

Egypt widened the canal slightly, but they really should have stricter rules on what sized ships can even be allowed through it.

Hopefully they do. But then again if some vessels cant get through there where are they going to be re-routed to? Sure that'll have its own set of complications if they have to take another route or be forced to ship by land or air.

I know from buddies in the navy that it was at least a semi popular pastime to play D&D while at sea. Anyone ever work on a shipping vessel or know if folks in that Industry use there downtime to play RPGs?
