Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
Huh. Interesting situation, as CR is releasing its show on Amazon, which also has its own video game department (which I've heard is a complete mess, but still). Plus, CR can make a game on their own, but it can't be explicitly D&D like Baldur's Gate III, without WotC partnering.

So I'm curious how much flexibility they have when looking around for developers.

What are the most popular game-live streaming shows after CR, enough to become a cash-cow brand? Could big companies (Netflix, Amazon, Warner or Disney) to produce their own game-live shows to promote their own franchises?

My theory is it will be more real-time action and not by turns, close like Warcraft III, and it should be about to lead a squad and not only one character.

I suspect CR would have 0 problem getting cooperation from WoTC if it wanted to.

I mean, a real time strategy game based on the forgotten realms would be quite easy to create. You could even use the old engine (and most assets) of Warcraft 3!

Human -> Lord Alliance
Orc -> Many-Arrows Kingdom
Undead -> Thay or Netherese remnants
Wood elves -> Myth Drannor remnants
Blood Elves -> Menzo

That be a superb game.

I imagine the way Critical Role is growing today is similar to how things were when the Forgotten Realms was first growing into D&D's most popular setting and getting tie-in books and games and such (I wouldn't know for certain; I was born in 1988). The difference here being that it got its start as a franchise in streaming/podcasting (which, come to think of it, makes it kind of like Record of Lodoss War, too).

I mean, WotC is seriously ramping up to be a video game developer. Given their connections to the Critical Role crew, and the Critical Role crews industry contacts...maybe they are already working with WotC.

Though there are a lot of game genres they could go for that would not need much D&D material to be playable with their own IP.
