What kind of Magic Items do you like to obtain/use?
  1. One use items such as Potions and Scrolls
  2. Multi-use with charges such as Wands; Rods; Staffs
  3. Armor
  4. Weapons
  5. Trinkets such as Rings and Necklaces
  6. Oddities
  7. Other (please explain)
When I am playing D&D I like Magic Items like I am sure a lot of you fine folks do. Hand me a nice Magic shiny Mace or a Flaming Sword! Or perhaps a Ring that always has the spell Shield up! I am not really too picky, unless the item is just abysmal or cursed... I'll chug Potions, I'll read Scrolls; wear the sturdiest yet flexible Armors.

Bonus questions -- what were some of your favorite Magic Items that you have obtained over the years?
Mine were -
  1. a pair of boots that allowed me to fly
  2. a Magic Sword that did extra damage as well as bonus damage on Criticals
  3. a wand of Fireball and a wand of Lightning Bolt, each with 30 charges, and I was dual wielding

I like weapons and rings (yeah, I'm old). I think my favorite magic item of all time was a ring found by a Deep Gnome character of mine that gave him the power of flight but also caused him to sprout huge bat wings when he used it. So metal.

I like unique weapons. They don't have to be super powerful, but I don't want just a flaming sword. A +1 flaming longsword named Torch, which has the ability to cast scorching ray 2x per long rest, and sustains any lit torch within 30', causing it to burn no fuel, would be awesome.

The fourth issue of my zine HOW I RUN IT - entitled "A MYRIAD OF MAGICAL ITEMS" has a examples of magical items I like, which are any item that is essentially unique (if not in power, then in form and backstory) and that does not totally duplicate what another class or character type can do.

Of established items, I have always liked ioun stones and Defender swords.

I can say the kind of magical items I don't like is any kind of regularly encountered magical item that takes the places of modern technology or that would upset the general expectations of psuedo-medieval setting's economy and culture.

Weapon, armor, things with either no charges or x charges per day no limit.

I especially like things that make me harder to hit.

This way I'll use them and not hoard them for a day that never comes.

IMO one of the best uncommon items in the game is Guantlets of Ogre power to use on a Rogue, Bladesinger or Dex Ranger that dumped strength to 8. It covers your only weakness.

Favorite items I personally have played with on my character:

1. mind venom dagger which is a +1 magic dagger that does an extra 1d6 psychic damage. This is what my Rogue5/Cleric2 uses. He has the booming blade cantrip too and it is a pile of dice to roll on a SA (1d4+1d8+4d6).

2. Bracers of Defense on a Bladesinger

Honorable mentions I have played with:
Dragontooth Dagger
Staff of Defense
Staff of Power

I think what I really want (and do not have) is a wand of fear for my Fey Wanderer Ranger.
