According to the article linked last page, it's "an animated series that follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU". So, prequel.Maybe it means freshman year of college?
It's hard to know how and why they're making these decisions, especially with the dynamics of theatrical release vs direct-to-streaming what they are right now. The suspense and implications Secret Invasion could be very cool over the course of a couple to several movies, but maybe it would risk sucking the life out of some stuff, too. Those mysteries and reveals might be better to do sort of done-in-one (-series), so it's over with. The only one that actually seems or sounds interesting to me is the Secret Wars.
Why make it a series instead of a movie though?
Well, I guess the series will have more time to develop...would have been great to have it as a movie trilogy or duology instead through.

COVID.
Disney are uncertain as to what extent movie going will bounce back, and don't want to put too many eggs in the blockbuster movie basket.
Book of Boba Fett, Mandalorian 3, Andor, Kenobi, Ahsoka, Bad Batch 2. Those are the ones in the "started filming" stage. Other things, like the Lando series, are still in planning, and therefore may not make it out the box.Do we know what the Star Wars shows are?
Assuming that you are referring to Rangers of the New Republic, it is no longer in active production. My understanding is that it was going to have a prominent role for Cara Dune and so that is no longer happening, at least not as it was originally envisioned.I really wish that an across being toxic didn’t tank the show she was going to be in.
That one I'm kind-of fine with. The character was great, but it's not like Republic Ranger was a classic Star Wars archetype.Assuming that you are referring to Rangers of the New Republic, it is no longer in active production.
