Pathfinder 1E How evil is trading a soul?

As a general rule, my thought on evil souls in general is... not all of them are true evils, but by the same token, some are irrevocably evil and absolutely unrepentant fof that fact.

Let’s just say it’s somewhere on par with selling people to be sacrificed to a demon lord or dark god.

The neutral act would be to have nothing to do with the gems.

The good act would be to free the souls and return them to their own afterlife.

The evil act is to profit from them.

The question is, is there a way to release the souls? Are they able to do that? If not, are they going to do something good with the money they get from the exchange? Do they know if the soul can actually suffer more than it already is while trapped in a gem?

If your options were to exist in a state of perpetual imprisonment, or to be snuffed out in a painful but fairly brief process, what would you pick? Perhaps handing over the souls is honestly the good thing to do. It really depends on what options and knowledge the party has.

If they are in the country where it is allowed, then it is not that bad. The game does make it so the PCs/players should see this as bad and 'do the hero thing'. I would likely have some sort of soul come back around later and shenanigans happen.

I kind of see it on par with becoming a warlock and having a patron that you make a deal with. No worse than making a deal with the devil for your powers.

If the PCs are collecting people to sacrifice for their souls, then that is another matter.

To give a bit more info:
I have a druid ,LN and a paladin LG in my games. I am heavily considering if i should take some of their powers away if they gonna go through with this. One pc, an investigator might be going solo with this and do the evil act by himself and sell the gems. Should i take powers away then?
I also have a swashbuckler pc who just considers the profit side of things.
I will also have to warn them just so this doesnt come out of the blue

Honestly, the only one this should really affect, powers wise, would be the paladin. They're the only ones who get into trouble if they willfully commit an evil act. And letting someone else do it so the paladin can technically keep his hands clean shouldn't fly. By participating in the planning and benefiting, he'd be involved.

Well the druid is lawful neutral, and he might become slightly more towards evil and lose the neutral aspe t required from druid alignment.

My advice is to resist the urge to shift alignment based on one event. Alignment should reflect a long-standing trend, not a single event. Keep it in mind, sure, but if they haven't been engaging in a lot of evil deeds, this single act won't make a sudden difference.

Out of curiosity, how do they know the souls inside are evil?

This is something that the powers of both sides of the Good/Evil spectrum will probably notice. The good deities asking the PCs to fix their misdeed. The evil powers probably asking them to help with other transactions. In fact, my first thought when reading this thread was "make a powers check".

Paladin detected evil and i figured its the souls that resonate the evil.
