D&D 5E Turn into vampire with wish?

No problem. As you speak your wish, you are teleported to a handy rack in Strahd's basement. A few nibbles later you're a full-fledged vampire spawn, bound to his whim.

Yeah, this would fall into whether a DM allows it or not, and their attitude towards PC vampires and the like.

Personally, for D&D I've always seen vampirism & lycanthropy as a curse instead of a benefit. I've played and enjoyed WW games of Vampire and Werewolf, but I don't carry over the "Vampire/Werewolf as superhero" over to D&D; in D&D, they're monsters in the truest sense of the word.

so I'm a 10 level monk and I'm trying to turn into a vampire with wish because i want to be able to buff my movement speed and attacks. can i turn into a vampire with the wish spell? (we are currently at Candle Keep with a spell scroll of wish)
Seems like just wishing to buff your movement speed and attacks would be much less involved. Not that your DM will grant you that wish.

Reminds me of an idea I had back in my high school days, to have my character wish ahead of time that should he ever be turned into an intelligent undead, he would retain his soul and alignment. Just, you know, in case.

Actually, niklinna has a great point. If you're going to burn a wish, wish for what you actually want, not an avenue to your goal.

The wish could be a means to create a friendship with a storm spirt or a quickling, perhaps gain an instinctive understanding of the Motion rune, or you could be the first to unlock the secrets of the Wending Way- a paranormal means of negating space. This could be simply abstracted as being able to invoke haste 1/day, although that would be a cut-and-dry answer worthy of Melba. Being a vampire can be cool and all, and if that is the means to your goal that's perfectly fine. And a method to add some interesting drama, but clerics are going to be a pain.

In the spirit of monkey paws...

POOF! You are now a Vampire. Unbeknownst to you, his name is Bob and his mind is now inhabiting the body of your monk. What will he decide to do with your old body, and will he seek vengeance? Or be grateful for his new life?

Hand the player a copy of the default Vampire monster. Copy the character's former sheet to reference when you roleplay the new Bob.

Maybe wish for a permanent haste effect instead? Not that monks really need an artificial speed boost, but that would still be kinda cool. Better than being turned into a vampire anyway.
