D&D 5E Further Future D&D Product Speculation

Sure thing, right here:

Radiant Citadel contains Gazateers for 16 Settings (the Citzdel in the Deep Etheral, and 15 different Prime Material worlds), but these are all seeds it seems. I hope the designers flesh then out on the DMsGuild or something!
Im not sure Id interpret his statement as the new setting(s) wont contain content from the Radiant Citadel only that they wont be released in 2022. Time will tell

Well, the question was "is Radiant Citadel what you were talking about," and his qnswer is basically "no." Yhough if Radiant Citadel does well, we will probably see more of these places.

That makes sense. I may have missed the OG question.

EDIT Yep I missed the OG question. My eye was drawn right to Winnegers answer.

5E is not the restrictions edition. Unfortunately, Dark Sun is the restrictions setting. It basically defines it. You couldn't pull that off, not from the current design team, without undermining either the edition or the setting.
They pulled it off with Mythic Odysseys of Theros, which drastically restricts the races you can play in that world. There are a few other restrictions as well, like only red and blue dragons and such.

If they can do that, surely they can do Dark Sun as well.

They can, but I think they'll likely calculate that's more trouble than it's worth, at least in the next few years. And if the options for mass-market appeal are a massive overhaul of Dark Sun or picking a much less demanding setting (such as Planescape), I think it's an easy guess which they'll do.

My opinion is Planescape will return before Dark Sun. It is not only a lot of work with the psionic powers but DS has got a special tribalpunk style and this means work for the art designers. My mind is open about a graphic novel publishe by WotC itself set in Dark-Sun.

There is an opened door for Birthright, but not in this phase yet, but we will have to await more time. Hasbro is very interested into the digital market, and not only videogames about dungeons-crawling but also strategy. Birthright should be the best option to start from almos zero.

My theory is Hasbro wants D&D to be as Fortnite, the king of the intercompany crossovers, and then the target of 6th Ed is to be a system for all the genres: fantasy, space opera, superheroes, steampunk, gothic horror.. to make money with licenced titles, (videogames, comics, movies..).

Can I say "otaku" or is this too offensive? I guess Hasbro is interested in the potential market of manga+manhwua+manhua, but the steps should be careful to avoid complains about cultural appropiation or something like this. Have you seen Kamiwaga: Neon Dinasty? Even a manga in the web.

Mystara is too generic fantasy, but there is potential in Hollow World and Red Steel.

Witchlight could be a setting. Don't you remember Ravenloft started as a module?

Sure. And if all Dark Sun took was restricting a few races and not mentioning a few monsters, it would have been done already. The only mostly unchanged race is humans and everything else is different enough to warrant comment. Not to mention all the extinctions and genocides…and mutations. They’re not likely to put that kind of product out, not without drastically changing the setting. Better to leave it alone than mangle it to unrecognizability.
