Legend
For the civilization/Birthright part, develop a city on the nature continent. Perhaps the PCs find the ruins of the last city civilization tried to start there and can use it as a start. Have some sort of monster there that needs to get dealt with before ships from the homeland can come with settlers. Also have several options that the PCs can do that will add to the success of the city.

Maybe there are some neutral pirates up the coast that can aid them if dealt with or a mine for ore that needs to be taken control of first. Come up with several ideas for the group to try to do that will boost the chances of building a city to base out of on the new continent. Give the group choice and let them know that they cannot complete all of them before the next season comes and the ships arrive.

You also talk about one of the kids playing a druid. If he is mature enough, try to have a NPC try to bring him to the other side and support the nature gods. It would be what people traditionally think, but it can be worked for him to be on the other side.

Ioun stones? But give them each a unique power related to one of the sins. In the end maybe they go into a crwn, or for the final ritual they have to be "attuned" to the head of a statue or something?

You could change lust to charm or similar to make it more kid friendly. Not sure about the other sins, but if you like that idea, then they can be fleshed out.

@aco175 : The druid is the youngest, the rogue player is 1year older. I doubt it could work, but I did find a template for a corrupt druid class, so I might use this as an evil corrupt druid organisation that he will have to purify eventually once they are settled, and we could work it out as they are part of his background. (his old clan turn evil and he escape or something similar)

I like the pirates idea, since they are dealing with pirates already. They will be kidnapped, and escaping the pirates will take them a year, so when they arrive on the continent poeple will have settled in, and it will cement their position as they will help their crew. It could that once they dealt with the evil capitain, the rest of the pirate crew can be allied and make a foundation of a naval force.

@LordEntrails : I've never played with ioun stone, so I actually have no idea what they does. I only recall them from a Forgotten Realm book I read when I was a kid. I'll check them out. I want each stone to be easily identifiable, like if they cross someone on the street with the stone, they will know it's an evil foes. The idea of the crown to fill out match the gauntlet of infinity, so it could work.

This is a pretty good article on them. I think you would want to change them up some, but consider for inspiration.
