I dunno, he and the other guys in the fight are all wearing armor, and the green sword seems very Drow-ish. So could be just Red Wizards, but considering how the RW are supposed to all be human, it's strange one has pointed ears. I'm still thinking these are re-branded drow.
Ever seen a drow with a bald tattooed head?

Tatoos on bald head. Thayan, not drow.
I said elsewhere that I watched the trailer and assumed they were the Shadar-Kai. The idea that they're Thayans didn't occur to me until I read one of the threads here. I'm not well-versed enough in what Thayan tats are supposed to look like to id them I guess.

Shadar-Kai makes sense. But the guy has pointed ears, and Red Wizards are supposed to all be human. Maybe a half-elf?
Those ears aren't that pointed tho. I have a fold in my ears that make them look a little pointy like that - could just be the guy's ears.

Ever seen an Elf Thayan?

They're either changing what Drow are, or they're changing what Red Wizards are. I don't see why they'd have to change the latter, so I'm thinking former.
If they are elves it's more likely they're Shadar-Kai because the devs were working closely with the movie folks and I doubt if they wanted a new look for the drow they'd use the same look they're using for Shadar-Kai.

It’s not an elf. Your pointed ears argument is not strong. The ears would be obviously elven. And if he was drow there would absolutely be a spider motif.

Not a bald tattooed head motif

They certainly aren't duergar that's for sure.

I imagined that was a Green Flame Blade cantrip.
