More important than the actual view count, the trailer is #1 trending video on YouTube. No small feat considering there have been a number of other reveals coinciding with comic-con, most notably another Rings of Power trailer (which I think also looks good).

Movie is definitely going for "Guardians of the Galaxy, but fantasy." Which is a good take, because Guardians of the Galaxy is essentially D&D in space.

One thing I don't think anyone has commented on so far...

I'm pretty sure that's going to be the movie's version of Drow. Pointed ears, likely in the underdark... and yes they're not purple/ebony, but I think everyone with half-a-brain would know having ebony drow is a disaster idea. To be clear, I think it's best they went with the Romulan-evil look instead.

Really? I was leaning either Shadar-Kai or Thayan warrior, considering the bald head and tattoos which are going to be iconic for the Red Wizards.

Ever seen an Elf Thayan?

They're either changing what Drow are, or they're changing what Red Wizards are. I don't see why they'd have to change the latter, so I'm thinking former.

There are Elf Thayans now, when Szazz Tam took over he was less bigoted, well he still favoured undead generally over the living. Drizzt's Elf ex girlfriend from before Cattie Brie was reincarnation was an a servant of Szazz Tam.

Ok it's a little funny that Szazz Tam, the lich dictator, is less bigoted on race than his predecessors.

Now?

Because the actors in fantasy movies were hideously ugly at some point? Tom Cruise in Legend? Mathew Broderick in Ladyhawk? Cary Elwes and Robin Wright?

I don’t really see a whole lot of difference here.
I'll even toss in some more niche fantasy movies that still had actors/actresses who were considered attractive.

Beastmaster
The Sword and the Sorcerer
Hawk the Slayer

And then going more mainstream wide appeal...there was no one in the main LotR cast that was hideous either.

Even stuff that was complete schlock like The Warrior and the Sorceress or Masters of the Universe didn't cast ugly actors.

As much as I agree that the main cast should be attractive (I mean, this is Hollywood OBVIOUSLY they'll be attractive) I'm not sure these examples make me confident in this film!

I think I'll just generally say that expecting the stars of ANY big-budget film to be unattractive is just a wild expectation, regardless of the film's actual quality. The star of a big film is going to be sexy, they'll helps sell tickets.
