First, I would define exactly what the benefits/hindrances of Small size are. Right now, we have one hindrance (disadvantage when attacking with Heavy weapons) and a few advantages that don't often come up, like being able to use smaller mounts, possibly having more opportunities to find cover*, and moving through the spaces of larger creatures.

*very DM-dependent, since Halflings take up the same 5' space as a full-sized Goliath or Firbolg.

So perhaps start with:

Small-sized: Halflings are Small creatures. While for ease of use they take up the same space and use most of the rules of Medium creatures, note the following: Small creatures have disadvantage when making attack rolls with weapons that have the Heavy trait. Small creatures gain increased benefits from normal cover- if the Halfling would have Half Cover, they are considered to have 3/4 Cover. If the Halfling would have 3/4 Cover, they have Total Cover.

Nice. I would much rather just explain that size matters for finder cover or concealment, though.

I’m almost certain it’ll be changed to 30ft, just like the small races in MPMoM.
Art of Disappearing: There is little or no magic about a Halfling, except the ordinary everyday sort which helps them to disappear quietly and quickly when large tall folk comes blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off. As an action, you erase your image from the mind of one creature you can see within 120 feet of you; the target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against a DC of 8+Prof+Dex or you are invisible to it until the end of your next turn.
That is interesting. I was thinking along the lines of “you can attempt to hide simply by staying still” and or “when you use the Hide action, you can move up to 10ft before making the check.” but simply disappearing is a bold choice!

I'm thinking that some traits come in depending on how one looks at them. The classic 'hobbit' with cozy farming or the 4e riverfolk that appear like 9 year-olds.

If you live underground I could argue for darkvision 30ft, but if they are wandering fishers, I would not.

I do get a lot of mileage from the nimbleness trait and passing through larger bad guys. I also think the ability to reroll 1s is more powerful than many think.

I’m not suggesting to remove anything, though?

I said they currently have no benefit to stealth or nimbleness, because of floating ASIs.
Halfling Nimbleness allows them to pass through the spaces of Medium or larger creatures, and for Lightfoots, Naturally Stealyhy allows them to hide when obscured by a Medium or larger creature. Though, the way a lot of DMs run stealth does make the latter useless.

Lightfoots are one kind of halfling. Halflings, not just a subrace of them, should be stealthy.

As for Halfling Nimbleness, by itself I don’t think it actually models the nimbleness it is named after.
