It also gets boring fast if your DM isn't a vet.

That was my point. 5e is accessible to newbies. But what happens when after newbies learn the game, get comfortable, and want the gametoshift.

Thisis why the top 3 5e DM memes are

1. Forever DMs who can't get players to shift to DMing
2. DMPCs
3. The DM finally gets the player to DM and it's a houserule and homebrew disaster

If only there were some sort of .. advanced Dungeons & Dragons system.

I know 5 first time DMs that had disasters in 5e.

I've known DMs in every edition that had disasters, including yours truly. If 5e was as bad as you imply, no new groups would be forming for 5e.

That's obviously not the case, no matter how much you complain.

The phony CR, multiple book monsters, and little guidance of 3x, plus you are the replacement for any actual rules.

It’s hard to have a disaster. My pal in particular just kept dialing things up until he knew where the challenge really was.

It’s very forgiving in my experience if a little too easy until you get your legs under you.

There's not enough instant death triggers that can be masqueraded as fair play that some people crave, yes.

But since the rule is 'ask your DM', one can just say a heretofore undiagnosed heart murmur fells the barbarian and dust your hands of the shadowplay.

I do not admit it was designed to attract new players. I think that was at best a distant secondary goal, and at worst a complete stroke of luck.

Really? The game is clearly designed with new players in mind, with some elements kept in because the grognards demanded it during the playtest.
