D&D 5E Is 5E Special

I mean, I can't count how many times I've heard 'Wow, I'm so happy that fight was so bland! Please pass the white bread on mayo* sandwiches!"

*I know what it says. I didn't typo.
You know, I have heard new ppl talk about how they did all sorts of wild stuff that isn’t strictly in the rules, because the game doesn’t codify swinging from chandeliers or grinding rails with a shield.

Is the 'struggling with the ease of DMing' because it's just as, is not as hard as 3x?

The phony CR, multiple book monsters, and little guidance of 3x, plus you are the replacement for any actual rules.

Probably not clear enough: 3.x players have more crunch in mind. Turns that are broken apart in actions, full round actions etc.
One player, who still plays a bit of 3.x struggles with the more relaxed turn structure of 5e.

That they could do because monsters don't have anything interesting to do while they're kickflipping the dab while yeeting doggo chonks?

Yeah, people vastly underestimate how creative e the 5E combat system allows people to be.
Well, the base combat system isn't that good at encouraging creativity with new players. I've introduced many players to D&D, and the set up of heavy character sheets and detailed combat without clear ways to do other things means a lot of new players, and even experienced players, often just do the normal things.

5E combat isn't bad, but it could do a few small things to make it far more enjoyable. Adventures in Rokugan is proof of that.

Hilarious that the anti-4e crowd whined about "all the classes are the same" (they aren't) and have no problem with all the monsters being the same.
That's because Monsters are there to die, character Classes are more important.

And it's less that they were all the same on 4E, and more that they were similarly tedious if you weren't into the Powers thing.
