Black Panther second trailer

Comic logic works for supers, whose capabilities should exceed those of humans with firearms.

At the same time in Wakanda we have people charging aliens with spears in their hands. This is, to my nasty suspicious mind, like saying that a writer simply is unable to imagine a technologically advanced civilization in Africa.

Look, they have futuristic buildings, hover cars and led-blinking sci-fi displays, and yet, when they go to fight, all they can do is mass together, raise spears and charge?

That's way beyond lazy imagining...

PS. Here're a few examples of how they could have avoided this tired and lazy troupe of mass-scream-and-charge:
1. The king is effectively a superpowered human, and they need no firearms.
2. Awful equipment is actually high tech, they have lasers, force beams, force shields, and they simply like traditional looks.
3. That mass charge? Well, it was holograms and illusions designed to confound the enemies while the real weapons strike.

I could go on and on. I just happen to think that it is unfair to think about a culture that's supposedly advanced, and yet they still use dark ages mindset when deployed to battlefield. Dune makes an excellent case for justifying existence of melee weapons.
The Black Panther movie makes it clear that their spears aren't just spears, and even their cloaks aren't just cloaks. And the absolute worst thing Marvel could have done was to say that just because their culture is advanced, it has to look like Western cultures.

Movies often follow the Rule of Cool, using what looks unique, different, and/or visually interesting/entertaining. Using distinctive armaments makes it easier to distinguish who is who and what is happening in a fight scene as well.

The Sonic Spear - "Look at this. A handheld sonic cannon powerful enough to stop a tank. Untraceable by metal detectors and we've got thousands of them." - Erik Kilmonger

The Dora Malajie Vibranium Spear
is a ceremonial weapon that though light and collapsable is also extremely solid and resistant so that it can pierce or cut nearly any substance, absorbs kinetic energy and conducts electricity. Using the Wakandan bead tech a Vibranium spear can be recalled to the weilders hand and assembled spears can interlock to create an energy barrier

Wakandas also use Ring Blades (which can been thrown and then return to the weilded), and Shuri has her laser gauntlets

Wakandan spears arent primitive tech

The spears are naturally armour defeating, because of their construction. They're also energy weapons. They have those force shields; both large and small. And yes, their king is a superhuman. So are his friends.

That's what they say. That's not what they show in the film.

I watched the same scene. Check what happened later, after the initial deployment:

Screaming and charging? Yep.

Folks, I realize I am arguing common sense against comic fans on a fantasy gaming portal forum, but please, do not negate humanity's capacity to evolve and learn.

If you have a superhero, who can ignore modern weapon advancement, fine.
If you are a human with a fancy gimmicks, do consider fire zones, ranged fire support, artillery and so on. Every soldier on a battlefield appreciates being able to take advantage of these. If there is a human with military background in charge, it's likely they have necessary know-how.

I'm going to bow out of this thread now.

To that I'll respond with two words: Victory Conditions.

The only thing that matters is letting Shuri work on Vision for as long as possible.

reminds me of the quote from Stargate when Jack ONeill is teaching rebel Jaffa how to use a P90 instead of their traditional MaTok staffs

O’Neill picks up a Ma’Tok staff and says "This, is a weapon of terror. It's made to intimidate the enemy. But this” (holds up P90) "This, is a weapon of war. It's made to kill your enemy

I suppose the Wakandans being so isolated for so long have never really needed weapons that outright kill and have instead relied on their sonic tech to subdue the enemy until the Dora Malaje spears or the Black Panthets claws could finish the job.
