This epic war story begins with an invitation to a friend's funeral and three optional prelude encounters that guide you into the world of Krynn. Amy Dallen is joined by Eugenio Vargas to share some details about how these opening preludes work and some advice on using them in your own D&D games.

There is also information on the three short 'prelude' adventures which introduce players to the world of Krynn:
  • Eye in the Sky -- ideal for sorcerers, warlocks, wizards, or others seeking to become members of the Mages of High Sorcery.
  • Broken Silence -- ideal for clerics, druids, paladins, and other characters with god-given powers.
  • Scales of War -- ideal for any character and reveals the mysterious draconians.
The article discusses Session Zero for the campaign and outlines what to expect in a Dragonlance game -- war, death, refugees, and so on.

It's also evil to let 10 million people die when you could save them.

I happen to agree with you by the way, but I've seen a lot of people argue here that the ends justify the means when it comes to being good.
this is WAY beyond the scope of the discussion and goes into a nuclear trolly problem. But no choosing NOT to kill 10,000 innocents people doesn't equal letting 10 million die... try to save them other ways and if you fail you fail, but don't murder 10,000 random people

Not if you think of it as Team Cosmic Good and Team Cosmic Evil, which Dragonlance does. The problem is, you don’t like that and want Dragonlance to be something it's not. The same way you feel about the Order of High Sorcery. You don't like the narrative underpinnings of the setting. DL is not reliant on 21st century definitions of good and evil.
cosmic good should be a okay doing evil acts isn't 'a quark of the setting' it is nonsense

There's a reason WotC so desperately swerved to support only Heroic characters in the last two editions.

To be fair, it's less murder hobos and more silly mercs.
that's the thing... I saw some in 2e (I think I heard about more of it in 3e) but by 4e and 5e it is always just a joke told... I have not seen IRL a group of murder hobos in almost 20 years. I can't believe it is the default.

heck our dedicated evil campaigns seem to have more heroics then some seem to think is the default on this site.

Sigil is a major planar hub that has that distinction due its neutral ground status. If deities could enter, Sigil would be a war zone and people would die. If the LoP gained enough followers, she would ascend to divinity and be unable to protect Sigil. So she kills open worshippers to dissuade others from worshipping her and thus protects the citizens of Sigil from being destroyed in a war or conquer Sigil.

Not much different than killing a cult of demon worshippers to stop a demon lord from being summoned and destroying a kingdom.

So if we agree neither scenario is evil or murder, we can move on.
It's very different from killing a cult of demon worshippers. That cult has the intent to destroy the kingdom. Her worshippers do not. She doesn't even try to talk to the person and persuade him not to worship. She just murders him. Thus earning the evil entity the name The Lady of Pain.

yeah... how did any one mistake her for good?

back in my teen years we would make joke about going to kill rats to level, but I have never seen it IRL... this is so intresting.
We did it a few times back during 1e when we were kids, including me going out into the forest alone trying to find a wolf or something to kill. It hasn't happened since then other than as the occasional joke to make people laugh.

yeah it was 2e when we would joke about it... I heard some horror stories in 3e about murder hobos... but again it's been years.
