I know this sounds insane to many of you, but I value setting consistency over raw playability.
I don't see any reason why you can't have both. If old details about the setting are a problem for modern play, there are many creative ways of dealing with them that don't require a hard reset. Just look at how Marvel Comics has handled its canon for over 80 years. (warning, TV Tropes link)

Interestingly, at least one creator who worked on 5E Ravenloft - Strix, who worked on Valachan - outright said she wrote her domain as a continuation of the old lore. (Considering some of the other Easter eggs in the book, I wonder if an earlier draft of 5E Ravenloft had been more continuation than reboot.)

Sometimes they are. Sometimes continuity gets so overgrown and convoluted that the only reasonable option is to reboot.

If you include the Astral Sea as an important part of Spelljammer at all, that is changing the old lore.

That doesn't sound "insane" to me. It sounds stupid and detrimental to the hobby.
Well I'm just glad we haven't resorted to insulting the preferences of others on this board.

I'm sorry, but I don't have much respect for preferences that would prefer that the game be literally unplayable than have settings be occasionally reconned.

Seems to be hyperbole claiming things are unplayable.

I prefer faithful adaptions of older setting doesn't have to be carbon copy.

Also not opposed to new stuff a new setting or mtg one I don't care what they do. Time will judge what sticks and what doesn't.

Toning down aspects are fine chainsaw approach not so much.

I'm not saying that anything currently is unplayable. I'm saying that taken to it's logical extreme, @Micah Sweet's statement of "setting continuity is more important than playability", he would prefer that the game be literally impossible to play than a single setting he likes get retconned/rebooted.
