D&D (2024) Lifetime boycott of D&D-branded products?

I've been thinking about this, and even a one-week boycott could be pretty devastating, if it's the right week - specifically, if it's the week the D&D movie opens.

TBH, most attempts at playing non-DnD systems haven't gone well in my home groups.
Same here. I personally made a decision in 2014 to invest in 5E D&D even though I didn't have a gaming group at the time. Six months to a year later when I finally got a group together, we decided as a group to play 5E. At this point aside from the Everyday Heroes modern game that came out in November we've already made the monetary and time investment in the 5E system, and we have zero desire to invest in or learn another game system or revert to an earlier edition of D&D. Am I or my group going to invest in 5.5E/1D&D/6E when it comes out. (If it even comes out at this point) who knows? I'm just going to wait until the dust settles and see what's left standing.

Hoping to get royalties is a different thing than "crushing," and it is hardly abnormal let alone immoral to pursue that. Doesn't bother me.
I can understand WotC wanting more control over their IP and make more money through royalties, etc. Although this may have gone horribly wrong for them, but I don't think they intended to stomp out their competition under booted heel.

So unless that adjustment actually officially comes out on the 16:

the Anti-OGL is now officially in force.

As of today, January 13.
no, nothing is officially in force. Nothing was officially released and even if it had as part of an official OGL 1.1 it would not apply to anyone who has not agreed to that. To have it apply to everyone WotC needs some different mechanism, and I am not sure one even exists.

This threat (with a t, not a d) is not helpful.
If you tell them that they can't win you back no matter what, you have just lost any weight in that matter. They can ignore you in their decision making as you are not a potential customer anymore.

Today is January 13.

Do I understand correctly that the Anti-OGL (1.1) is now officially in effect?

It doesnt matter if anyone signed on to it.

The "de-authorization" would be now already in place.

Hasbro-WotC can at a later date try claim a precedent, the OGL 1.0a would have been dead since as of today.

Hasbro-WotC never retracted this January 13 deadline.

Nope. If they don't release it, it is not out and enforcable.

They can ignore you in their decision making as you are not a potential customer anymore.
Exactly. The game will continue and evolve with or without those who boycott. There will always be new players to take their place and perhaps maybe they are trying to cater to a younger consumer base rather than placating people who want more of the same in the form of updated settings and rules from previous iterations of the game, who knows...
