With regard to an Open License, a morality clause is impossible.

However, the license itself can include language of intent to boycott any products that do hatespeech.

Meanwhile, the protection of Product Identity means hatespeakers cannot hijack your own intellectual property.

Since the common example has been wotc's hadozi I figured it's time to add the time wotc's parent(?) company hasbro gave a transformer a name that is also a swear word to the example pile.

Morality, what is acceptable or not, and where lines are drawn constantly shift over time. I think publishers should be able to, and would want, to evolve as ideas evolve. I do support a 3rd party as the only way to do it. A company trying to police what is acceptable is not a job I would want, even for my own products. That's just a nightmare. An easier way would be like to say "What the SPLC as identified as hate speech or bigotry", or some other expert in the field, rather than some person making an arbitrary decision.

Slags kinda offensive here as well depending how it's used.

Exactly, when you use the OGL 1.0a, you keep control of your own Property Identity.

You can choose to license your own Property Identity separately via a separate license that you can control on your own terms.

Historically, Hasbro-WotC did something like this. They gave the OGL 1.0a to the wild, but they closely controlled the separate d20 License.

Of course, try to avoid the pitfalls of the d20 License, such as poor quality control. You can write any terms for your own license for your own Product Identity.

The whole thing should be pulled. If they want to create a STL or GSL 2.0 to handle trademark protection, that's their business. This whole thing would be fine if it wasn't trying to steal something back from the commons.

Of course, you only need to look at moral codes from history: Did the Hayes code for movies or the Comics Code inprove content and keep people "safe" form "bad things"? How about the broadcast code for broadcast TV?

Or that Infamous TSR code of "everything must be rated G"......

If they are really serious about stomping out hate join the OCR and let a panel decide and based on past history WOTC should not be permitted to be a voting member on that panel.

There's no way the WotC agrees to not be on the panel, is there? Because couldn't it then be used against them?

The need for a morality clause would make more sense to me if WotC had more recognizable IP that could be exploited for, say, pornographic purposes. Like, I can get why a company like Disney would insist on a morality clause for anyone licensing their work. But WotC doesn't really have any recognizable IP that is available through the OGL to be exploited in this way, does it?

What I'm trying to say is, if someone uses the OGL to make a adults-only RPG, or one that is hateful in some way, I don't see it being attributed to WotC, either legally or in terms of public perception. But I'm no lawyer. Maybe this changes when the movie comes out, if it is a big hit?
