The OGL: Why is this really happening, and what to do now...

the friend of my enemy… according to your logic we can never do much because even just boycotting D&D material released by WotC is hurting the innocent designers

No. This is not what I say.
I can do boycotts. But I can lift them if I think they have fullfilled their job.

So after WotC makes an offer that is not an insult anymore, I can buy/subscribe again.
Using the nucular option, which is NEVER EVER BUYONG ANYTHING AGAIN WITH WOTC OR D&D ON IT, is misplaced right now. We can resort to that later.

Yep, that is what get's me too. I just do not see the need to blow everything up, ...yet. Sure pressure WotC now. But do it with the intent of making things better, not just to destroy everything.

Personally, at this point I want a better OGL 1.2, not a 1.0(b). IF we work with them, we might get that. If we don't, I think our chances go down. If we don't get what we want, then sure - burn down if that works for you.

So you are fine with them burning down everything we have?

Here, I'll do your half and list the things WotC is promising us:
First error, WotC is not promissing these. This was a draft for discussion.
  • nobody else is allowed to introduce animations in their VTTs
  • Only Hasbro can add NFTs to table-top gaming
I don't really care about the above so I haven't looked at it enough to comment.
  • Monetization of player's monthly table-top activity
That seems completely reasonable to me.
  • Want anything home-brew in your VTT game? Pay more money!
Speculation, but again I haven't read the VTT document closely. So I can't discuss it.
  • 3PP companies cannot trust the licensing ecosystem. Everybody go get some other job and quit doing full-time gaming work.
Complete hyperbole. I good license, like OGL 1.2 could be, or ORC could be, can be trusted. IF we get those in place we can have a better and brighter future.
So, again, I'm asking to continue the adult conversation you asked for: What is the value of caring about anything WotC does?
Because they are leader in the industry, by far. What they do matters and influences the whole industry.

Personally, at this point I want a better OGL 1.2, not a 1.0(b). IF we work with them, we might get that. If we don't, I think our chances go down. If we don't get what we want, then sure - burn down if that works for you.
That is letting your adversary frame the conversation through psychological manipulation. You have nothing to gain by believing this.

First, I don't have an adversary in this. The OGL 1.0(a) already framed the conversation and didn't do it well. The OGL 1.2 can do it better. I prefer sound legal language to protect more than anything else.
