It still boggles my mind that in the face of Disney money and success, Gina Carano couldn't just keep her views quiet. That saying harmful things was more important than success on that scale.

Or Curt Schilling, Roseanne Barr, the list goes on and on...

Not surprising when you think about it. They don't think they believe they said anything wrong. If you don't think you are wrong, why would you censor yourself? Not many "bad guys" think they are doing the bad thing. On the contrary, they think they are in the right, doing what's right.

Fun story; when I was a student at the University here I was doing check-ins to the dorms, and a group of foreign exchange students roll up. One kid steps out in sandals and a Hawaiian shirt. It is mid-August, and it is absolutely dumping rain. He says to me, in an almost comically thick French accent, "I thought this was California"

It's worth noting that Carano's flagrant transphobia was not the bridge too far for Disney and Star Wars. It took full mask-off antisemitism for her to lose her job.

We had to drive up to Oregon last year for a dog, and I didn't quite realize exactly how much California there was, even knowing that SF is not that far north. Pretty country up there.
