D&D (2024) I think depending on survey results Aasimar, Genasi, and Changelins could be added to One D&D.

I find Goliath quite boring as a new entry, but everything else I'm very game for, even though I do think offering Changeling as a base choice could overwhelm and/or frustrate some DMs. Curious to see if that shapechange trait changes if they are folded in.

I voted for Halfling, Dragonborn, Firbolg.

I think they could play up the Fey Origin more this time, I think in One D&D they will make Doppelgangers Fey.

Changelings are more useful for stortytelling effects, but Shifters are more interesting as PC specie.

I feel the aasimars are the Cinderella of the PC species. If Disney characters were D&D species, Cinderella or Snowhite would be aasimars, and the evil stepmothers would be tienflings. And Malefica would be feythouched spellcale.

Changeling are a bad idea. They are way too powerful in a make life really unpleasant for DMs kind of way. Plus you already have 2 fey races - elves and gnomes. Don't need another one.

Want to lean into the idea of a changeling? Make "switched at birth" a background for half-elves.

In practice they aren't that powerful because they can't mimic special attributes like darkvision or waterbreathing or flight or innate magic, or even somone's clothes! That hugely limits their abilities, especially at low levels.

Yep. They're either too powerful, or can't do anything. Not good.

The problem with the genasi is the goliaths have kinda taken all their stuff.
I do not understand this, and am wondering if you can explain, please.

Goliaths (in the playtest) can
a. Grow to L for 10 mins at level 5
b. get a gimmick tied to the giant ancestry (teleport, fire damage, cold damage, knock prone, thunder damage, reduce damage done to you)

Genasi (in MotM) get none of these, but instead get one of four elemental packages:
  • AIR -- cast levitate
  • EARTH -- cast Pass without Trace and avoid difficult terrain
  • FIRE -- darkvision, fire resistance, produce flame cantrip, cast Burning Hands
  • WATER -- swim speed, acid resistance, Shape Water cantrip, cast Create/Destroy Water.

Literally none of the giant gimmicks overlap with the Genasi abilities.
