I've always pronounced it "a simmer," as if saying "reduce heat to a simmer."
I've had a couple of players request to make changes to the aasimar over the years. I usually just did a straight template swap for the different tiefling variants and give them a different name (Bloodline of Zariel for tiefling = Bloodline of Sathia for aasimar. Same ASI, same spells, just a different name.) It make sense in my campaign, because devils are just "fallen angels."
