Will say one thing: My kids are excited from the bits I've shared with them. I was worried they'd be concerned over character mortality. Nope, they think it's funny, though the youngest wants a "no tentacles" rule. Something my wife pointed out is that they should really make a coloring book out of the line art in the book, as it's beautiful and would sell like hotcakes.

That's awesome. Yeah. The players definitely have to be in the right mindset. If they're overly attached to their characters, especially at 0-level, it's going to be rough. DCC is much less deadly once you hit leveled play. Clerics can heal more than most other OSR or adjacent games, you have luck to spend, you have a few rounds to bleed out before you die, and there's the roll the body rule.

That's a great idea. Things like Baby's First Cthulhu exist, Cthulhu coloring books exist, so why not some old-school DCC line art coloring books?

Heck yeah, I love DCC RPG!

One thing I've been thinking about is getting rid of the halfling and replacing it with some sort of "lucky human" class. Because, as much as Tolkien is one of my favorite authors, when I run and play DCC RPG I really enjoy tapping into other Appendix N authors to make it feel that much more different from D&D. And while dwarves and elves show up in non-Tolkien tales (though, certainly, our conception of them still owes a ton to Tolkien), halflings are pretty much entirely Tolkien.

In “Death Slaves of Eternity,” Marzio Muscedere suggests a more explicitly sword & sorcery style of play and pulling the clearly race-based bonuses out of the demihuman classes and renaming them for human use. He goes with pirate for the halfling, though others have suggested raider as a less exclusively sea-based name for the same idea.

To quote, “omit the sections Infravision, Small Size, Slow, and remove any alignment restrictions.” Otherwise it’s used as is with only the name changed.

That's a good take on it. As I said, I'm fine with dwarves and elves, but halflings are too Middle-Earthy for my DCC RPG preferences. I suppose I could do something weird like make them purple or covered in fur, too.

Just got it Tuesday, still reading through it. Am sure I will have questions, so thank you.
Please forgive my lapse in manners.

Welcome to the band.

Or make them ducks. Worked for Glorantha.
