"The Marvels" - Teaser

I was wondering when my post would drag a bigoted troll out of his cave.

Naw, I enjoy movies like Emma. (2020) and Black Widow just fine. I like movies with strong female protagonists. But I don't see whatever y'all are seeing in that trailer. I got that there was some kind of switcheroo and somehow the astronaut swapped places with a girl from earth who started jabbering through the window of a space station at a guy, but beyond that I just couldn't see anything to care about, and couldn't relate to the humor.

[shrug] There was a lot of talk of The Rise of Skywalker bombing too, and yet...

There's certainly a lot of people in this thread who see something in that trailer that I didn't, so maybe I'll be wrong. For your sakes I hope it's as good as you expect.

Obvious Audience Proxy Character is fun.

Black Widow was low-key one of the best MCU movies period and would probably get more of the recognition it deserved if they had bothered to make it prior to killing her off.

Captain Marvel was fine, really; folks get butt-hurt over Brie Larson or whatever but the movie was pure middle-of-the-road MCU fun times, elevated slightly by Jude Law bringing his trademark Jude Law smarm. Ms. Marvel was, awkward pacing at parts aside, just an absolutely wonderful show from start to finish and Iman Vellani in particular was an absolutely inspired find of an actress. Monica really didn't get enough to do during Wandavision so I'm excited to get to see more from her as well.

In general the trailer for this looks like a hell of a lot of fun; about the only disappointment it looks like we're being set up for is another MCU-brand forgettable villain. Still can't believe they did my boy Chris Eccleston dirty like that...

The movie looks fun and I’m probably going to watch in the theaters - but probably not on opening weekend.

First movie was a solid B. I think the additional Marvels will make this better than the first.

Maybe the tiny minds have a point, then, because from that trailer, the movie looks pretty tonally incoherent. I expect it to bomb.

Zero chance of that happening.

This might be the first movie to get my butt back into a theatre in 3 years but no, I won't go on opening day either. I generally finish work around 2:00pm, so a minimally attended matinee would be my choice.

Ms. Marvel was my favourite TV Marvel thing until the finale. I hate that they had to make it another "oh no, we must save the world from imminent doom!" crisis. I was way more invested in Kamala's relationship with her parents and how they would react to her being outed as a superhero. There were such great stakes in her personal life that the Djinn sub-plot felt like a tedious distraction from what I really wanted to watch.

It was still good, but the finale felt disappointingly formulaic.

Did you watch the show on Disney plus?

As a side note, they better explain about Monica and Kamela otherwise we're hitting Continuity Lock-Out unless you watch the D+ shows.
