"The Marvels" - Teaser

I'd claim Jeff Goldblum's Grand Master in the Great category, even if he's a "side villain". And if you're including Spider-Man movies, I think Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus could use at least an honorable mention.

But the main point is well taken, the MCU could use a better standard of villainy. Right now, I'm hoping they won't eff up Doctor Doom or, if they have him as more of a villain, Magneto.
I'd considered some of the friends from other Spider-verses (because Green Gobbo and Doc Ock were still incredible as always) but I decided not to reward the MCU for cribbing its' older siblings' notes.

Thanos' plan is stupid as hell, it's true. But the character himself is compelling and memorable.

Zemo, on the other hand, not only has a relatable motive in Civil War, his plan actually 100% works. And he is easily the best thing about the deeply mediocre F&WS.

The list is so long that it's easier to list the villains who aren't terrible;

MCU Definitive Villain Ranking List:
GREAT
1) Michael B. Jordan (Killmonger)
2) Tom Hiddleston* (Loki)
3) Cate Blanchett (Hela)
4) Jake Gyllenhal (Mysterio)
5) Michael Keaton (Vulture)
-----------------------------
GOOD
6) Jeff Bridges (Iron Monger)
7) Jude Law (Yon-Rogg)
------------------------------
OKAY-to-BAD
8) Everyone else
If Ironmonger gets on the good list then so does Thanos, Zemo, Yellowjacket, Whiplash, Scarlet Witch and Jeff Goldblum (playing himself)

Eternals was better than Thor DarkWorld

Quantumania is really pushing that break-even line and may not cross it on ticket sales alone. I think it would be the first MCU film to not make a profit at the box office? And Eternals should have a * by it due to being released during the pandemic and that impact on ticket sales.
Pandemic or no, Quantumania and Eternals are outliers. Wakanda Forever and Multiverse of Madness sold like gangbusters.
Yup Eternals is the whipping boy of the MCU. IDK if it n
m9ade money or not though as it's box office take is in the idk zone.

Can't really call it a bomb or flop though. Underperformed maybe but idk.
Yeah I was looking at total gross (and domestic at that) original and not ROI ratio.

As it is, the first Captain Marvel movie pulled in 7.05x its budget, which is the 4th best ROI in the MCU period, behind only Far From Home (7.05x), Endgame (7.87x), and No Way Home (9.5x!). No other MCU film pulled in more than 7x its budget, not even Black Panther.

Yup Captain Marvel was a big hit. Wasn't as bad as the internet bitching. Mid tier MCU movie there's a lot worse.

I'm not really an MCU fan anyway only saw 1 in theaters watched the rest on Disney+.

Probably a cultural thing superheros weren't really a thing here growing up (they were around but yeah).

To be honest Bridges earns his spot on the back of the "With a box of scraps!" line alone. Thanos and Zemo (in Civil War anyway) don't come close to that level of memorability, and I'm guessing maybe the inclusion of Whiplash here is a joke? Goldblum was fun but I was mostly focusing on main villains, he was barely a roadbump. I mean I enjoyed Walter Goggins in Ant Man and Wasp but I'm not putting him on the list. Yellowjacket... is actually a good point, Corey Stoll played it kind of cartoonishly but in an enjoyable way.

I'd say that's a low bar, but it doesn't even clear. Nothing in Eternals matches even Loki-as-Cap or the fun business with the portals in the climax, because portals are always fun. But a poke in the eye with a sharp stick is actually worse than a hard kick to the shins.

The best thing I ever read about Eternals was along the lines of "the only thing remotely human and relatable thing in this movie is that if Gemma Chan broke up with me I, too, would fly myself straight into the sun."

I liked Jon Snow though.

It made back around 2x its budget.

Black Widow was low-key one of the best MCU movies period and would probably get more of the recognition it deserved if they had bothered to make it prior to killing her off.
I really liked Black Widow, but I still wish they had gone with Dave Harbour's stated desire to do all of his dialogue in Russian with English subtitles. (Except for the beginning when he's still undercover.)

They are all perfectly capable of speaking unaccented English as well as Russian so speaking in accented English is a baffling character choice. I choose to pretend that they ARE speaking Russian and the movie is an English dub, but Dave Harbour wanted to do it right and my hat is off to him for that.
