Then why hasn't it happened? It would be a trivial design effort to improve orcs to be at least in the same ballpark as halflings.

I like them too, but they are full of tribal trappings, and their history has a very LOTR vibe. Not really deviated far from the classic lore.I really like the orcs from World of Warcraft. I suppose they evoke some classic orc tropes, but they've got a thriving civilizaiton of their own.
Bad design practices caused by factors I am not able to conjecture on.Then why hasn't it happened?
At some point you just gotta realize you can't please everyone, shrug your shoulders, and move forward.I like them too, but they are full of tribal trappings, and their history has a very LOTR vibe. Not really deviated far from the classic lore.
Maybe it's harder than you think. Has anyone done it?Bad design practices caused by factors I am not able to conjecture on.
Very true. I wish WotC would do that. They won't seem to admit that they can't please everyone, and these constant attempts to thread the needle across the board are not inspiring confidence from what I'm seeing. At some point you just gotta realize you can't please everyone, shrug your shoulders, and move forward.
There are numerous better versions of orcs on the market. DMs and other designers make up detailed player species all the time, and have been doing so since the 70s. And that's ignoring all the fictional species made up outside of RPGs.Maybe it's harder than you think. Has anyone done it?
Can you provide an example of orcs that don't use the classic tropes, aren't bland, and still feel like orcs? There are numerous better versions of orcs on the market. Mod Note:It almost seems like you only think you can empathize with someone if you think that person is special, from how you frame "specialness" as the ingredient needed for empathy towards others.
