D&D (2024) New One D&D Playtest Includes 5 Classes & New Weapon Mastery System

Barbarian, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard

The latest playtest packet for One D&D has just landed, and features five classes (Barbarian, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard) and the new Weapon Mastery system.

In this new Unearthed Arcana document for the 2024 Core Rulebooks, we explore material designed for the next version of the Player’s Handbook. This playtest document presents the rules on the Weapon Mastery property, updates to weapons, new and revised spells, several new feats, and five classes: Barbarian, Fighter, Sorcerer, Warlock, and Wizard. You will also find an updated rules glossary that supercedes the glossary of any previous playtest documents.

A lot of folks seemed to be like getting folks to agree on the fighter will be impossible before the playtest, but everyone seens fine with it, and its a Warlock that everyone is divided on and folks seem completely fine with the fighter.

Sorcerer is alot better then I expected, but I think Dragon Sorcery should get their at will flight back.

I actually loved what they did with Wizards, except I think the Wizard should get all new subclasses.

I'm sympathetic to both sides of the Warlock, I'm not sure who to side with, although I would like cooler flavour options for the Celestial Pact Familiars then just birds, like Laterns, Floating Holy Symbols, and tiny Angels.

Barbarian seems fine, anyone notice anything amiss in the fighter or Barbarian?

It’s the last one! let a little bone for all optimizer to chew!
They already shut down SS, GWS, sorcadin, sorlock. action surge no more apply to spell.
But I think they will eventually shut down that cheese one too.
It would really be better off as a feat than a class feature, honestly.

I like the classic illusionist, but there are enough beguiler fans out there that I would be completely unsurprised to see the 2024 subclass split the difference between the two.
I do think with only 4 wizard subclasses, combining the best bits of the School of Illusion and the School of Enchantment together as the "mind magic school" would make sense.

Especially when they call the subclass the 'Psion'.

I keed! I keed! ;)

that's not my expernce with new PHBs comeing out and not the one I hear as common
Well, I don't know what to you tell you. It was made clear when they released 3.5 that you could still use 3E material with it, and when they released Essentials they said you could use it hand-in-hand with the standard 4E game. And I'm fairly certain they've said they were going to give bits and bobs upon the release of the 2024E game that would allow someone to change the 2014E subclass level format to work with the 2024E level format.
