D&D (2024) I like the new Warlock

I think the new Warlock is amazing, and I love that Mage classes use spells as their features to such an extent now. The new Warlock fixes all the problems with my favorite class and makes me more excited to play one now. Letting the Warlock be gishy or spellcasting with different spellcasting ability modifiers is a dope idea, and the class really just look super slick to play.

No they didn’t. I watched the video, what they said was that they had received a lot of feedback that people want the Warlock to be able to cast more spells. Short rests were not discussed at all.
Uh, they were. They even mock the idea of the begging the DM for a rest and mention people didn't like it in the surveys.

I am pretty frustrated with your response. It means you've been arguing with us about this without having even seen the thing we were talking about all along.

I have absolutely seen it. I watched it before reading the UA. He unequivocally did not say short rests shouldn’t be used for primary resource refreshing, as you claimed. Sure, he discussed the warlock’s primary resource relying on short rests being a problem for some groups. That’s not really news, we’ve known that’s been the case for a long time and have been expecting the Warlock to receive some changes to help address it. That’s a very different thing than “short rests shouldn’t be used for primary resource refreshing.”

He certainly talks about the Warlock needing short rests for their resources being a source of frustration for some groups. He did not say short rests are no longer going to be used for refreshing primary resources.
Pretty much.

"The warlock is one of the only classes in the game that had a key resource that they needed short rest for..."
"...We brought the warlock in with everybody else".

You know what words are not in there? “Short rests shouldn’t be used for primary resource refresh.”

I have absolutely seen it. I watched it before reading the UA. He unequally did not say short tests shouldn’t be used for primary resource refreshing, as you claimed. He says it's a problem, he says surveys say its a problem, he says some tables dont get short rests, he says its resulted observably in playtesting in effectively zero spell slots as the entire ability goes unused, they mock begging DMs for a short rest, and then they propose multiple playtests which remove dependence on short rests for refresh of primary resources. And from all this, you conclude they will still use short rests as a refresh for primary resources, after first denying they even mentioned short rests?

Come on. Take the L and just move on to discussing ideas for how to keep the essence of the Warlock that you value while ditching short rests as the refresh mechanic. That's where productive conversation is at.

No, from all this I conclude that many groups have trouble with long rest recharge, which we all already knew. Whether or not that means the changes to warlocks will meet the satisfaction threshold remains to be seen. I’m not surprised they’re trying a non-short-rest Warlock. I am optimistic that this attempt will not meet the satisfaction threshold.

I have been discussing alternatives to the current Pact Magic, including ones that aren’t connected to long rests. But your claim that WotC said short rest recovery of primary resources is off the table just isn’t accurate.
