Combining multiple attacks into one is a good idea.

When you take the Attack action, you can forgo your second attack. If you do, you gain advantage on your first attack and deal double the damage.

Possibly as the great weapon master feat?
I’d be down with “as an action, whirlwind attack” type stuff. heck, give it the flavor that the fighter is just so deadly they can take out mooks in groups!

Sorry, what’s the floating slots idea?
Mine: At each level you’d have 2 “max level slots” like with pact magic, but also two max -1, and 1 or 2 max -2. Recharge once a day as 1 minute ritual.

So it’s basically long rest pact magic, adjust numbers as needed, and solves the “not enough slots” problem.

I don’t recall what JC said in the video but he mentioned soemthing as well.

So…two weeks to ”playtest” a huge packet of changes. Right.

Want to solve the “short rest problem”? Give everyone the ability to get a short rest as an action or bonus action 3/day. Now everyone can nova, so crank up the difficulty of the fights. Done.

His trial balloon was a half-caster progression, but with escalating Slots rather than an oncreasijg number: so a high Level Warlock could cast Level 9 Spells, but not have Level 1 Slots available. So, full Caster access to Spells, half-caster Spell point value, with Invocations on top.

I’ll have to watch it again, bc that isn’t the impression I got. I walked away with the impression that he was describing simply having 1-5 level spell slots, at a full caster or similar schedule, and moving the 5 levels of slots up as you get higher level spells or soemthing. It was pretty vague, and he talked about multiple things in one sentence.

Regardless, I doubt they are going to end up using half-caster spell level progression with whatever model they land on.

More and more, I wish they would try the warlock without any spell slots, drawing on at-will invocations instead.

They would need to greatly expand the scope of the at-will casting invocations, but this in itself would be no bad thing, even if some sort of spell slot system remains.
I could get behind this, especially with extensive ritual casting as well. At least as an experiment.

I just think when you have a class built around having a unique spellcasting structure, you can’t change it to a more unified structure without destroying its identity.
if the only identity were that it casts spells at a different rhythm, that would not be worth keeping. Moving everyone to long rests is much better.

To me this has nothing to do with identity though, it is purely mechanical. Having a patron to get powers from, invocations, and the MA are much more defining the identity for me.
