D&D (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

The upcoming Unearthed Arcana playtest packet for One D&D gets a preview from WotC's Jeremy Crawford. This is apparently the largest of these playtest packets so far, and the biggest Unearthed Arcana they have ever done, at 50 pages long.

It contains 5 classes, new spells, new feats, a revised rules glossary, and the new weapon mastery system.

This is just a repeated argument over what "compatibility" entails. If the current playtest is already past that point, then WotC is being disingenuous, and you can put together an argument about how/why it would be preferable to have a cleaner break.

If you're using a looser definition and don't see how the proposed changes are incompatible, then WotC's approach seems a reasonable reassurance that they aren't fundamentally changing the game.

I don't see any daylight on the topic unless we can settle the question of what compatibility means, since every following discussion is built on those differing premises. And I don't see any way of resolving that question to general satisfaction at this point.

the problem is the sides stopped being different thoughts and opinions of people and became some kind of religious zealot thing were people on both sides are hunting for heretics.
nah, it’s the zealots of one side annoying everyone else with their constant posting of grievances in any thread they find, to the point that they are getting some pushback in a futile attempt to make them stop

I really do not care what they call One D&D, but this neverending barrage of futile postings is annoying, and as far as I can tell it is not convincing anyone. It seems to accomplish quite the opposite when I go by my reaction to it

We could just not attack each other over disagreements like that and not state things in response to each other as if we were wrong or dumb or disingenuous.
But that is a level of respect that enworld has lack for a while.

I don't think it was as much an argument was about compatibility as much as what it entailed to say you could use both, as well as if you thought it was a good idea. Some did, some didn't. But let's leave the argument in the closed topics.

what do you think you are doing right now?

great, you disagree, noted

In what way? Subclass choices?
Spell recharge and spell level both changed from pact tactics. The second subclass get rewritten as powerful warlock cantrips that both are and are not warlock cantrips at the same time
Armor prof changed
You get 1 new invocation but have to spend several to get back your arcana

Not with the 2014 warlock it isn’t.
Yes, it is. I’ve literally run a short adventure for a level 8 Warlock (2024) with the Archfey Patron from the 2014 PHB.

The only issue we had was that the subclass didn’t give automatic extra spells. We considered having it do so, but we wanted our feedback to be purely based on the text, not text+houserules.
Okay. So you named one that doesn’t matter.
Okay, so name whichever ones don’t work with the playtest version, and why.
Maybe you just don’t like people seeing things from a different point of view.
This is a personal jab. Let’s not go down that road.
I have not blocked anyone yet, but come close a few times, just to make it stop
It’s mostly been people I was giving a second chance anyway. I can only roll my eyes at incessant complaining, grievances, accusations, and the like, before someone has got to go. The folks I’m actively engaging with still aren’t at that level.
