Deities & Demigods hooked me on both D&D and mythology. I continue to have a passion for both and that book was the root of that. However, that is not lost. Whether or not WotC continues to use RL mythologies in anyway, we all still can.

I don't think it has anything to do with copyright. It has to do with cultural sensitivity. Many of the "Mythos" from Deities and Demigods are actually practiced religions (even the Norse and Greek ones) to some. So while it doesn't bother me, I can understand a corporation not wanting to potentially defame someone's system of faith.

That being said, when I eventually wrap up my 5e immortals system it will have all of the mythology / religions in the original Deities and Demigods and at least judo/christian ones as well!
That's what I'm talking about!

I feel for new players though, who are going to lose out on a great entryway into mythology and other cultures due to corporate fear. Happy I had the opportunity before it was closed off.

Deities from classic mythology are public domains. Hasbro would rather to use characters they are owners of the trademark. (Gods from Hinduims are an apart case.

* Deities from Theros and Kaldheim could be added to the rest of D&D Multiverse. And the plane of Zendikar has got special vibes, it would be wellcome in Planescape. Maybe Zendikar has got a "twin brother" and this has got more D&D elements, for example a planar invasion of different giant factions, and these have to fight together to stop a second planar invasion from the Far Realm, or a third invader group, the evil elements who worship Thirazdum, the elemental eye.

Even if they're not directly providing all of the "fish" you want, they're still opening up the river for fishing via opening up the setting on DMsGuild, allowing third party creatives to create and sell content for the setting in a centralized location that would have otherwise been dispersed across a hundred fan forums and reddit threads, if it ever made it past the creator's home table at all - a location that just so happens to also host most, if not all, of the original setting material from previous editions.

Say all you want about WotC's products not being up to whatever standard you wish to hold them by, but let's not pretend that opening up older settings on DMsGuild isn't doing anything to breathe new life into them.

Are there stats for sales numbers of DMs Guild per setting by which to measure this? # of products/downloads of products/total cash/etc.?

I don't know if anyone has assembled all of this data -- it would be a big spreadsheet -- but you can click on the metal medallions a product has earned to get a sense of how much it's sold between DMs Guild and DriveThruRPG (the TSR reprints are in both stores).

(The medallions only show what sales range it's in, so the numbers would be imprecise and one would probably need to just go with the minimum values to be safe.)

One would then need to tag them all by setting, which I don't think DMs Guild does by default, and then total up estimated sales that way.

My hat is off to whomever does this work, though, as I can definitely see it having value.

I meant originally, originally. But yes, DC even went so far as to hint that post-Latest Crisis, that it was editorially true, but then there was a huge editorial shake up immediately after, so it may not hold true any longer.
DC has loosened up on continuity several times -- I was really excited when Hypertime was introduced in the late 1990s, which was an attempt to stop worrying about everything in obsessive detail -- but as you say, it only lasts until there's a slightly different configuration at the top, and back into the Crisis mix they go.

Marvel was always better than DC at maintaining at least broad strokes continuity, which is a big reason why I always leaned their way. Lately though they have been jumping on DC's bandwagon.
