D&D (2024) DMG 2024: The Planes

Now I am thinking about possible demiplanes or astral domains created "accidentally" when the zone of a plane is "tainted" by a different aligment or resonance. For example the formians conquer a zone, and then that space within is "shatered". Then the formians could be creating a planar empire conquering zones in other planes.

Or a zone could be "reconquered" becoming a new planet in a previous wildspace.

Then if a region within the Feywild was "tainted by the darkness" or within the Shadowfell "by the light" and a new (demi?)plane would be created, being this the origin of the Spirit Realm within Kara-Tur setting.

Let's imagine next to the Athaspace there is other wildspace, being this invaded by the giths and the defilers from Athas. After a long time those sorcerer-kings are defeated and the defiler magic erradicated, but not totally at least enoughly. Then that zone would become a planet within the wildspace next to Athaspace. And here we are free to create a zone like the region of Tyr from Dark Sun setting, but with enough freedom to add all elements from other sources.

And, if you look at the 2014 DMG, strip out the tables, the section on dungeons is... about 3 pages long. 🤷

In the 2014 DMG, it's actually 3 pages long. Apparenlty, though, if it was done in 2014, it was good, but, if you do the exact same thing in 2024, it's bad. Almost like there's a consist, persistent push to try to paint 2024 as bad... Naw. Gamers would never do that. Would they? Paint the stuff they don't like in the worst possible light to "prove" that it's bad even when what is being done now is EXACTLY THE SAME as what was done then?

That is unpossible.
I think some people who do the pushback did not even read the book...

... I am reminded to some pushback to 4e...

The specifics are very different, but I think a lot of the criticism that 4e got is being repeated regarding 2024. Specifically:

  • Changes to established lore
  • Added tactical complexity to combat (IE weapon mastery)
  • Codification of things that were generally left a bit fuzzy.
  • Abilities being more reliable and consistent with concrete mechanical effects

Now I'm not saying 5.5 is 4e (for good or ill) ; though I do feel there are some similar design goals. And that is bringing out similar attacks and talking points from people who think they already know enough to not like it.

Yeah. I thought it had been long enough. But some grudges seem to hold on forever.
