Is that why every threat about WoTC has people reminding us that a WoTC manager called his personal contact at the Pinkertons that one time? And the OGL thing almost happened? And that WoTC fires people? And that that one artist used AI to create concept art for their piece in the Giant's book? Oh, and they said that DnD wasn't monetized as much as they wanted in that one shareholder meeting. Does that all happen because people are largely judging WoTC on the quality of their products and nothing else?

I find it kind of strange that you have spent so much of this thread telling people they shouldn't judge Kobold Press for their corporate actions, yet I have never once seen you say the same thing about WoTC being judged for theirs.
I think you shouldn't judge Kobold Press (or WotC)'s products by their corporate actions. Judge their actions all you want.

I agree.

So why is it not okay according to Micah who I was quoting, to not buy Kobold Press products because of the perception of Kobold Press's actions as a corporation. But it is okay and perfectly acceptable to constantly bring out every single misstep WoTC has made for the last five years and declare that you will never buy their products again because of it?

I'm just pointing out the double standard of "well, we should judge Kobold Press by the quality of their products" while holding WoTC to "LOOK WHAT THEY DID! THAT'S BAD! THEY ARE A BAD COMPANY!"
Again, my lack of desire to buy WotC's stuff has nothing to do with their behavior as a company. I just mostly don't like the stuff they make. I also don't like their actions as a company, but those are separate issues.

people frequently defend those actions, maybe they do not say 'focus on the product' too...

eh, much criticism is directed at the product itself. That some people do not like something about WotC is ok, they do not slam the product because it is from WotC, they slam WotC in a thread discussing a WotC product

So, you have seen someone respond to "because WoTC did this I am not buying their products" by repeatedly telling that person that they should only judge the products, not the company? Because I haven't.

Am I saying people never criticize WotC's products? No I am not.

Am I saying no one has ever defended those actions (or lack of existence of those actions)? No I am not.

I am pointing out that about a half dozen to eight times in this thread, someone had stated they were disappointed in Kobold Presses actions and stated they would not buy Kobold Press products, and Micah Sweet the person I was talking to and not any of you who have immediately jumped into this, told them "well wait wait, judge the PRODUCT not the COMPANY. They make good things so you should still buy them" as though that were a standard that has been established on this website for all companies.

So, just like in this thread, if I went looking I'd find you telling people who said they wouldn't buy WoTC products because of the lay-offs or the OGL or whatever thing they found objectionable that they shouldn't avoid WoTC products for that reason?

Just like you repeatedly stated in this thread over Kobold Press products?

See. personally, I've never told anyone what they should or should not buy. IF someone doesn't want to buy something because of a corporate action? OKay. I'm not going to tell them that they shouldn't make that decision.

not keeping track of that, sorry. I certainly have seen them argue that there is ‘nothing to see here’ and defending WotC. That is not really all that different

Well...good for you, I guess. Like I said, I care about whether or not a company's products work for me. That's how I determine whether or not to buy them. I'm surprised this is apparently controversial.

Whether or not the company's actions make them an entity I respect or not is a separate metric. I don't really like WotC. I still blame them for the OGL debacle. To me it proves that they care more about maximizing their profits to please their shareholders than about the community I have been a part of most of my life and which they have a HUGE influence over. That being said, if they were to release a product that I thought was worth the money to me, I'd probably buy it.

I see no reason not to apply the same philosophy to Kobold Press or any other company. But if you don't, that's fine.
