D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I wished I would have done this earlier on my first playthrough, but I'm re-speccing the NPCs. That way I can play with the personalities I want, and not the classes that make up a good party (stuck with Shadowheart if you want a cleric).

In my 2nd playthrough, I'm playing a shadow sorcerer (mod). Lazeal is a vengeance paladin and karlach is a life cleric. Asterion is the same though.
I currently have Karlach as a Monk/Fighter, and Jaheira as a bard - which suits her as a harper.

I’m running Shadowheart as a Paladin/Cleric
Gale as is.
Wyll as a blade pact Warlock
My main character is a Ranger/Cleric (Selune)

Trying to be a good boy this run. Wish I had taken Karlach but I thought she was a baddie. Though enjoying the Shadowheart redemption line though.

2nd run playing a hardened soldier. He's straight to the point, a bit belligerent, has a soft spot for kids, and hates arcane magic (war magic killed his troop back in the last war). He will not use scrolls and does not tolerate wizards.

I left Shadowheart to die on the ship, and boy was she pissed about it. Ultimately though a unit needs a medic, and I begrudingly agreed to have her. Laezel is my bestie, Astarion I dropped immediately (first act is putting a knife to my throat, no way josie).

Gale I didn't even meet, no way I'm sticking my hand into some crazy arcane portal!
Karlach is the best, we became immediate battle buddies.
Wyll is a tool of last resort. My guy just cannot fully trust someone whose in league with devils, but his reputation is of course stellar, rocking that 18 charisma, so I keep him around. There are certain fights I just really need that area power he can bring.

This run is pretty damn hard as I have very little control and area magic to work with, as its mostly me as fighter, laezel as fighter, karlach as barb, shadowheart as cleric.

For the tadpoled characters like Wyll and Gale it's explicitly mentioned that they seem to have been powered down by the experience. For others it's less explicable, but also less of an issue as you'll be higher level by the time you recruit them.
Halsin says that he was depowered in the process of lifting the shadow curse. Gale had his magic drained by "the orb". Wyll, Asterion and Karlach where depowered by the tadpole. The only genuinely inexperienced origin character is Lae'zel.

Some current observations:

I fought Marcus and demons and felt over powered. Then again I fully unleashed as I wanted to Harpers to die.

Then went and fought the Drider and his troopers and man fudge that guy. Still kicked his butt but man he could lay down some hurt.

Been using Wyll, what a boring ass character no wonder I never play Warlocks. Eldritch Blast Eldritch Blash Eldritch Blast Zzzzzzz. Only using him cause of story bits as his dads in the tower im heading to. Can't wait to swap him back out for Laz'eal.

BTW at what point do I do both the Shadowed Underdark and the Mountain Pass? Like clear out the Underdark but once I find the exit to the Tower warp out and do the Mountain Pass? Then enter the Tower?

You should have done them before getting to the Marcus and drider fights, as those regions are both parts of Act 1, and those fights are in Act 2. The Underdark elevator doesn't go to the Tower, but to an exit in the northeastern corner of the shadow lands. You should still be able to go back and do them still.

Right so as long as I dont exit to the tower in the Shadow Lands I can go do the Mnt Pass then do the tower.

Glad I'm not alone in this lol.

I'll take Gale every day over Wyll. I did Wyll's quest chain to completion (I think) but man did it ever not click for me. Gale is just a go to for me.

I noticed Karlach has a named Teddy Bear named Clive. I found another Teddy and set it by her at camp. It’s still there.

Now I get the meme where she says “I want to go to build-a-bear.”

With Pact of the Blade, Wyll can use any weapon in the game and use any weapon to do so. Stick Great weapon mastery on him and one of the cool glaives or two handed swords and watch him kick ass.
