D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

Yeah it's ultra-colonial, and they intentionally gave Esther and the Society extremely colonial vibes, there's no question about that. Frankly that a lot of people seem to think it's somehow good or "okay" for their characters to steal and then give away a baby belonging to a sentient species to someone who openly wants to conduct experiments, seemingly merely because it's in an egg not a womb causes me a degree of eyebrow-raising, personally. Of course if you're RPing a heartless colonialist or amoral mercenary or whatever, obviously that doesn't apply, and you would of course hand it over for some shiny gold.

Did you think something good would happen? Surely not? The game drops a lot of hints. The person who wants to buy the egg is clearly amoral and rather creepy. She's working for people who wants to conduct mind-control/brain-washing experiments on children, and is quite open about it. Surely the only question would be how far out the bad thing happening would be, like, weeks from then or decades from then.

Yeah my 'very good guy' Paladin told her to take a walk. When I get around to my 2nd game (I'm going to learn to mod this weekend instead) I'll be a less upstanding individual and see where that goes.

Considering that the egg keeper guy is desperate to save the egg which will otherwise be destroyed in the creche, I thought there would be SOME way for the quest to have a positive outcome. You can either leave the egg and let it die, or save it and give it to dangerous idiots. Maybe there was some other option, but if so I missed it.

I’m saving the egg because all the other Gith are dead. I’m a hero!

You could... not give it to others? Hold on to it yourself. If it doesn't hatch, oh well, at least a sentient child isn't in the hands of lunatics who want to subject it to, at best, brainwashing.

I mean, every single thing Esther says is a giant flapping RED FLAG. The Society of Brilliance are clearly the exact kind of people who gave us numerous horrifically unethical human experiments throughout history. Definitely a lot of people will be playing dubiously ethical characters who would be quite willing to engage in a bit of child trafficking, but like, no Good-style character should be handing anything over to this mercenary woman who wants a baby for obviously unethical experiments!

I feel like the "egg" thing is interesting because I think it stops a lot of people processing this normally. It if it just a cute little (or even hideous!) gith baby in a swaddling cloth, I think very few people would have even considered handing it over. If it was a pregnant gith (I know they're not viviparous, I'm talking theoretically), I think close to 0% of people would have handed them over, even unethical PCs would have balked.

As for the egg-keeper, well, the creche isn't destroyed unless you destroy it, and you don't have to destroy it. You can simply fight the people you need to, then take the exit that isn't through all the other gith.

The crèche isn’t destroyed, but the gith are going to destroy the egg if you don’t take it, because it’s taking too long to hatch so they consider it defective and inferior. That’s literally the only reason I took it. But there’s just nothing else to be done with it besides giving it to idiots. The conversation you can have with the egg keeper gith very much gives you the impression that saving the egg from the crèche is the “good” thing to do.

I completely missed the woman who wanted the egg until I was on my way out of the area, after having let the superweapon destroy the creche.

All the Gith were trying to kill me.

I had killed them. I killed them all. They're dead, every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children, too. They're like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I HATE THEM.

And I took the egg and sold it to the science lady. Not to mention everything else not nailed down. She ran out of gold.

Scratch disappeared and I couldn’t summon him.

So I went from map to map to see if I could.
Finally worked on the first overland map.

He is unsummoned at camp and I have to resummon him out of camp but can’t because it takes a short rest to recharge.

So that sucks. Luckily I have no issues with Shovel.
