D&D General Is DnD being mothballed?

The increased release rate desires are about crunch books, though.
I should add that there are a few things, not that big. But Candlekeep Companion is cool but only 84 pages. The Darkhold Zhentarim book is 112 pages. There is also the Rasheman book, but I’m not sure how big that is.

Tony DiTerlizzi seems enthused about the latest book to go into mothballs.

I dont think they play alike at all. PF2 requires a level of tactical play that is not required at all in 5E. Skill systems different, system math assumptions different. I mean, yeah, they both have fighters, mages, and experts, but the play is not identical at all.
There are essential differences of substance, and accidental differences of detail.

A Honda Odyssey handles very differently from a Tesla Model 3, and different considerations will come into play over a road trip.

Yet both are 4 wheeled ground vehicles with a similar interface.

It’s funny. WotC gets endlessly criticized for focusing on profit yet the only argument in favour of making more books is to increase profits.
not according to you ;)
At five books per year, that’s just a bit less than one every two months. More than that and your just cannibalizing your own sales.

Maybe the criticism about them only caring about money is also a criticism of that release schedule?

There certainly are a lot more reasons for an increased schedule than WotC’s bottom line, that just might be the only one that WotC is interested in

Nope. Car vs boat stands. Both will transport you, but they do it in vastly different ways. The "simply play the game that releases content on your preferred schedule" dog wont hunt.

I agree that they are different, but these two vehicles will cover the same road at different speeds and fuel needs. A boat would be PbtA or something.

I'm a quibbles, I quibble over fine points of already stretched analogies, my apologies.
