I imagine the proverbial "edition wrap-up" doldrums with regards to the '24 rules update might also be coming into play - regardless of one's position on whether it's a new edition or not, should be or not, etc., I suspect a decent subset of people more or less checked out once they heard "New Ruleset comes out in 2024" and have been paying less attention than they otherwise would to the products coming out in the meantime.
That doesn't explain the PHB still selling light hotcakes. Also it looks like Dragon heist is doing well too.

Seeing this done for one of the factions from Planescape made me immediately think of what other groups could be given greater spotlight in similar materials, and the various deities of the D&D multiverse was the first to come to mind.

I can imagine a supplement going into greater detail on the various versions of a god in different worlds they appeared in (maybe even including a First World interpretation) with various lore about their ideals, realms, clergy, and dogma. They could even include some monster stat blocks for a high ranking follower or champion or unique monsters and extraplanar creatures associated to them. Also maybe include a set of piety rewards, unique blessings and boons, maybe even some unique spells or artifacts from older editions.

It would be a cool way to get more deity material while allowing those not interesting in them to ignore the content.
Maybe a Legends and Lore series like they had with the online Dragon/Dungeon magazines!

Those were rare and for charity, this is the second microtransaction within less then 30 days.
A small product =/= microtransaction, they are not the same thing.

While I don't like that it is digital only, if this is the format that gets them to publish more setting material, that as traditionally lost money, than I am all for it. Bring it on!

I will also point out there are lots of Beyond articles with cool content (advice, tables, adventures, etc.) that is completely free

Because WotC isn't D&D. They did that intentionally in 2000. They can never be D&D again. They are just a steward now. And not a great one lately.

It is simple: you can love D&D, and even 5E particularly, and not like WotC design, marketing and/or business practices. This is important and i want people to understand it.
I agree with this except I think after the OGL fiasco they have been doing pretty great.

Phandelver is $60. The earlier books are not. Inflation is a real thing
It’s $42 on Amazon. Where I make the comparison.
