D&D General Companion Thread to D&D Survivor: Dragons, Metallic

Two dragons enter, one dragon leaves. Gold or Silver, who dies first?!
Why force the confrontation early? Keep both alive so we can have the showdown of the century when all the others are already gone.

Edit: It would seem we have finally entered the "knock-down, drag-out fight" phase of the survivor. All the controversial ones have been weeded out, so all hell can break loose with four votes suddenly falling against option A and then six votes pushing it right back up again. Most of these options had been 18 or higher for essentially the entire run--now it becomes a struggle.

Really not sure where all the gold hate is coming from TBH. Like, I get that I'm more sensitive to it because it's what I've been voting for, but this just seems kind of strange when there are far less popular/far more niche options up there. If you're concerned about something else winning, I'd be looking more at Steel right now; they've barely moved throughout the entire thread, and are now tied for first (and, until recently, they were properly first place.)

Tempting, but I genuinely don't like Golds and consider them pretty bad Dragon Sues, rarely depicted with any flaws in their frequent "wise mentor" roles. They're just better than you for no trade off.

Like less sexual versions of early Elminster.

That’s the opposite experience for me. I’ve seen more golds depicted as flawed and cruel then I have seen them depicted as wise and noble leaders. Silvers are more commonly filling that role in all the lore I’ve read. Golds are the arrogant wizards of the metallic dragons and I love them for that (ironic as I don’t really like the Wizard class at all.)

Gold dragons have a close association with the Platinum dragon, possibly the evillest dragon in D&D! He's so evil, he's convinced everybody he's actually GOOD! Sure, we all know dragons exist to be slain by knights rescuing princesses (or by adventurers looking to line their pockets), but somehow he's convinced people he's good, and now, that he's a GOD! The sheer hubris is astounding!

And every other of these you vote against what I want to win?
No, I'm generally voting for the non-standards that we have left because they're interesting IMO. The whimsical Mercury dragons are almost like dragon-sized Faerie Dragons, with illusion powers and shapechanging -- always fun to run as a DM. And Cobalt dragons (not the Ferrous dragons of the same name, but the Metallic ones) are kind of like the broody, goth dragons of the family -- also potentially fun to run as a DM, as they are still dragons with vast power (at least compared to your average humanoid).

Once the nonstandards are eliminated, then I'll probably end up voting counter to you, because I'll be upvoting the underdog and downvoting the favorite.

if you look at this survivor thread and all the past whatever I vote up you normally vote down

Aren't essentially all dragons "just better than you" with no tradeoff? Silver at the very least is also presented that way, and AIUI so is steel.

Don't you be talkin' smack 'bout my boy Bahamut. Them's fightin' words son.

But what if you want to rescue the dragon from the scheming princess? ;) We all know that the princess wants to end the dragon's virginity...
Of course, she may not be the only one, but some knights still believe in the value of a proper, chivalric courtship and the attendant chance for the dragon to make up their own mind and give (or deny) enthusiastic consent. ;)
