D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

I’ve mostly quit playing for now.

I took a break for 2-3 weeks. Still in late Act 1. After removing the cave in with a smoke powder barrel and killing Nere, I was annoyed that the gnome Philomene somehow knew I did that already and disappeared.

So I replayed: tell the Myconids I bumped off the near Duergar already (didn’t think they needed handholding about that), find Philomene and get runepowder sample, then re-kill Nere with duergar allies.

Next up is I suppose the wizard tower, though it seems pointless and side quest-y. And the crèche, though same. I’m quite sure nothing is removing the tadpoles in Act 1. After those two likely pointless Side Treks, back to Grymforge to finish up real Act 1 stuff and on to Act 2, I guess.

The Underdark arcane tower was where I first understood the value of feather fall in exploring. I have an innate distrust of the main front door entrance instilled in my from decades of D&D play so I always look for the alternative way in and go there. Watching my monk and Lae’zel make Matrix-like leaps down the outside of the arcane tower to the tree sitting in the backyard was that revelation moment. I kept that tree’s extra sussar petal on my monk throughout the Underdark, trying every way possible to bring them with me to Act 2 because that aura on my front line mobile puncher was so splendid.

The creche can net you one of the best weapons in the game, especially for clerics.

If (OK, when) I do the crèche, is it crazy to leave Shadowheart in camp with the artifact d20? In character, I know the Gith want it and would never let them have a chance to get it, but I don’t know if traveling without it would lead us to become Absolute twots. And there’s no way Shadowheart would be parted from it at this point.

My normal party mates are Shadowheart, Gale, and Karlach.

So, I’m thinking, if artifact must come, flip Karlach for Lae’zel.

If not, that and flip Shadowheart for probably Halsin on his first outing with me.

Who is in your camp at the moment?

For me, PC, all origin characters (no one is Dark Urge), Volo, Halsin, Withers, and new guy the gnome I’ve rescued twice now, Walrus Broot, or something like that. I think he is like Volo and does nothing much, and will part company in Act 2 - I guess I’ll find out.

You can't leave the artefact behind, it will transfer to the main character if you remove Shadowheart from the party. If you are ever without the artefact (difficult, but possible) your character immediately turns into a mindflayer and it's game over.
