Players can talk to their DMs…This is wonderful if you're a GM and can force a change. Now ask how much of the gaming populace are GMs compared to players who have no such option.

Cure swapping happened in 3e, 2e was the same as 1e except they sphere system meant it was possible to only have cure light wounds (minor access) or no healing at all, depending on your deity.By RAW they did, and each morning your spells had to be pre-memorized for the day for each slot. If you wanted to cast Magic Missile twice you had to fill two slots by memorizing it twice, and so on. Same was true of Clerics in 0e-1e, I think they might have been able to substitute cure spells for pre-memorized spells in 2e but I'm not sure on that.
Are you sure about the bolded claim? So, basically, you're in the sort of hermetcally sealed group I talked about earlier. I get it; I mostly am too. But we're not the majority of players in general, let alone D&D players.

The rules in D&D are like the Ground Rules in baseball - set and interpreted by the referees. It doesn’t matter that there are 18 players and only 4 umps - their opinion on where a ball needs to land to be a home run is the one that counts. This is wonderful if you're a GM and can force a change. In their defense, one of my players did locate an online errata that explained the difference.Yes it's quite annoying. There really should be a change log printed in the back of the book when they do that. Otherwise it feels like they're trying to get away with something.
Nor do I. The table should always hold more weight than a corporation. If you can't understand that with many people the "official" rules have more weight than an argument from an individual player, I don't know what to tell you.
The only thing WotC does that matters to me is how they mangle the settings they have legal control over. The rest are just personal preference. You absolutely sure about that bolded part? Because your posting history would seem to show a different take.
well, if you don’t, then do not complain that the DM is using some rule you didn’t not like…Yeah, I'll hold my breath.
