What 3rd party campaign is better than Curse of Strahd? What 3 party adventure anthology is better than Yawning Portal?

Genuinely interested, because I’ve played a lot of 3pp campaigns as they have generally been different not better. (Except for The Enemy Within remastered but then that’s a different system not 3pp)

Keep in mind, I liked Straud though i think it has issues that requires the DM to plan around and Yawning Portal is a bunch of olc school adventures updated so I don't think that really counts for "5E WotC made adventures".

By the by I also liked Icewind Dale but it had HUGE issues.

But yeah, 3rd party. 2 off the top of my head:

Rise of the Drow by AAW games is just gorgeous and a fun long adventure. I love Drow though so...
Odyssey of the Dragonlords by uh... one of the guys who wrote one of the old Baldurs Gate games I think? Been awhile... Anyways, Greek themed adventure that was a ton of fun for my group. Especially when they tried to free the slaves in the main city.

One can find and purchase the Rise of the Drow adventure, via the DMs Guild.

It is subjective of course. I have read a lot of criticism of Odyssey of the Dragonlords adventure. We have it, but I haven't read through it since I am not the DM. However, my DM said he didn't think it was that great after his read-through and the issues he had read on line. So it is just sitting on our virtual shelf.

What adventure has Matt Coleville written?
0
or none that I can think of. He's a systems designer, not story. While I do love some of his products it should be noted his fame is entirely due to d&d5e. I'll be curious how his new system will fare now that d&d is on the downswing, but Im not going to invest any of my $$ on it. TBH its all d&d not matter who is doing it.

What adventure has Matt Coleville written?
Well, he has helped develop Flee Mortals, Where Evil Lurks, Strongholds and Followers, Kingdoms and Warfare. There are adventures in those, and Where Evil Lurks is all adventures/lairs.
Perkins and Crawford are basically just figureheads at this point, right?

So I’m a fan of Odyssey, I think it’s much maligned as anyone who reads my threads knows. Having ran it last year start to finish. But if I’m honest while better than the worst of 5e Campaigns it’s middle of the range and not a patch on Strahd or Tomb of Annihilation. There are a lot of people that would probably disagree and say it’s terrible. I think they’re being harsh but there it is.

I too love drow and know Rise of the Drow. It’s okay. It’s certainly sprawling and long. But it doesn’t grab me and I wouldn’t run it as written - more pinching elements for other underdark campaigns. For me the plot and the end foes just aren’t compelling enough. Just my opinions but if they are the best of 3pp campaigns for 5e then I can’t agree.

I’ll also say Kingmaker 5e is darn good - probably on par with Tomb of Annihilation. I really love Tales of the the Old Margreve, Scarlet Citadel and Rappan Athuk 5e but I would say they are all on par with middle tier WotC adventure paths as they all have their flaws.

I love big dungeon crawls. Sadly my group does not. Which reflects why I like the original Ravenloft module more than the 5E version. Straight to the meat.

Ok. I like Strongholds and Followers but to say it’s much better than anything WotC releases is surprising. It’s different, but a lot of people would consider it overpowered and pretty niche. I’d certainly have to think carefully before including the options, the one time it fitted and I did, it worked.

I don’t see how you can compare a supplement with a few subsystems though to something with the complexity of a campaign book. You literally just said you don’t want drop in stuff that’s too short but somehow where evil lurks (which is full of such things) is spot on? The difference in page count is like two or three pages per adventure.
