Plan to adopt the new core rules?

Again, that is a meaningless distinction given the context of this question. You were not in fact playing any 5e other than the one that exists right now, before this question. There is no other 5e at this moment when this poll is being taken.

Perfect example of why I think you're going overboard in your concern though. Told you context carries the day for almost everybody!

Wait, unless you're a time traveler? Are you from the future?
What does "5e" mean? I play Level Up, but it's a version of 5e just as much as WotC's version is. So by your definition, am I playing 5e or not?

The general vibe for my group (Im the DM) is Yep.
5e is the longest Ive ever played any edition of D&D and my current group has been going strong for almost 9 years, no reason to stop now.
Why would you have to stop unless you buy the new books? What does one have to do with the other?

When I used XP, I would see that my character needed say 600 xp to level up. I know how much xp Orcs grant, and where to find them. Even going to a place where there are "random encounters" gains the xp. Video game slang calls this artificial repetitive pursuit of xp and gp "farming". XP from combat only is exploitable and incentivizes behaviors that lack verisimilitude.
I never said xp for combat only. Like you, I specifically said "encounter".

Out of all the people that said they are not planning to buy the new book, 100% of them still participated in a thread about the new books.
I would say that 100% of the people who are registered to and browsing a forum about D&D are people who have strong opinions about D&D. That does not make 100% of them people who enjoy D&D 5e specifically, or even make them active players of either 5e or D&D at all. Some are people who locked in their preference to an earlier edition, rather than staying current. Others are ones who have branched out to a D&D offshoot of the OSR or Pathfinder or A5E variety. And then you have the hatewatchers, the bitter and angry ex-fans who can't let go and hang around to loudly voice their displeasure with the current state of the game.

So no, we can't take the fact that they responded to the polls any evidence that the respondents have bought a new 5e book in years, if ever. Many are simply expressing their strong opinions, like if a bunch of militant vegans decided to review bomb a new offering from Outback Steakhouse. There was never any hope of them being customers in the first place, so their opinions are of dubious value.

I don't believe you that you don't know what 5e means in this context.

Indeed, the pedantic distinction you just made would ruin your point, since you were claiming we needed to distinguish between 2014 5e and 2024 5e and neither would do anything for Level Up.

Micah, whatever point you were trying to make is getting more confusing the more you advocate for it. It definitely didn't need to be made for this poll. We ALL understood what was being asked. Including you.

Given the recent trends on this board with people who were already not playing 5e commenting on D&D threads, I wish the questions were:

1) I was not playing 5e before this; I don't plan to buy whatever this next thing is either
2) I was playing 5e before this; I don't plan to buy whatever this next thing is either
3) I was not playing 5e before this; I do plan to buy whatever this next thing
4) I was playing 5e before this; I do plan to buy whatever this next thing
Did you know it is free to post polls on this board? It's true!
