D&D (2024) Do you plan to adopt D&D5.5One2024Redux?

Those who play 5e-adjacent games are still playing 5e though. You can't lump together every person who doesn't play WotC 5e as outside the discussion as a block.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then. I will leave you with a question: Are people playing Pathfinder (1st or 2nd edition) playing D&D?

1st edition is broadly compatible with 3.5, so yes. PF2 is thematically similar to D&D, but not especially compatible with any version of it, so no.

I don't see how they couldn't, which is why I find WotC's insistence otherwise somewhat disingenuous.

My point is, there almost certainly will be points in the rules where the 2014 stuff is stronger (certain feats nerfed in the playtest come to mind). How does your power creep-obsessed player base deal with that?

Just so I am not mischaracterized here, I do not think the player base is obsessed with power. I think they want to make the character they like, and for most players, they want their character to be effective. So when given two clear options of the same class, they will always choose the most effective. They are not mindless, nor are they consumed by power.
And my point is that the 2024 rules, especially around character development, will be stronger.

Ok. I see your side. I just don't agree. I consider Pathfinder, both editions, different games from D&D. But your view seems equally valid.

That is why I am saying what I am saying. No player sticks with the weaker version. It is a form of power creep, and power creep outweighs all other game choices.

I am the DM, power creep might be the reason to not run a certain game…

If I had the opportunity, I would love to play 1st edition. Second edition, not so much.
