D&D 5E Don't Throw 5e Away Because of Hasbro

WotC's choices, starting with the OGL, didn't help either. It only got worse after the OGL, with the constant social media mishaps, virtue signaling, and finally, turning on their fans while disrespecting the creators of the game. But I have many many other games to try and play for years to come that WotC will never be able to tarnish.

Whether you intended it as such or not, “virtue signaling” has become a very loaded phrase that usually gets tossed in as a dog whistle for a certain element of humanity. Here, it has proven to stir up the more…problematic members of the hobby.

As such, it- and related terminology- is dimly viewed here, and using such rhetoric risks the ire of the moderation staff.

Because D&D encompasses all editions as well as the OSR and similar clones. It's not just Hasbro, WotC, 5e, or 6e.

Except this forum is dedicated to the current edition. There's the forum D&D Older Editions a click or two away.

I've been out of it for a minute, but since @SlyFlourish and other's preferred nomenclature for the upcoming release is "D&D 2024," is that changed now that the revision is spread out across 2024-25? Do we keep calling it 2024 when other supplements are released in 2026, etc.? Like are we going to keep referring to it with a date in the past so it continuously shows its age?

Once it's released, I'll just call it "Current Edition", or possibly "2024 edition" since the only thing not coming out in 2024 is the MM which doesn't really affect core rules. We've already seen revised monsters in MotM. You can call it Bob for all that it matters though, WOTC isn't going to slap a version label on the books like they did with previous editions.

D&D 2024 is only to distinguish between the core three though. Those are the only books being rereleased. And an overly pedantic, "well, some of the books came out in 2025" is just petty. But a book released in 2026 would not be a rerelease of anything. It will be a totally new book, so, why would you need any distinction on it at all?

Most preferable would be to simply call it D&D and move on.

I continue to think calling it D&D will, in a relatively short period of time, be perfectly fine for almost all posts.
