D&D (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Feels pretty natural to have Greyhawk as a default setting. It was the default sedating for 3e after all, which is about as familiar as I am with it.

I can’t begrudge fans an alternative in 5e to Forgotten Realms. Plus I know my DM is a big fan so I’ll benefit directly.

I hope they link the adventure paths to it and actually get some more meat on the bones we saw in 3e. Would love to see the next equivalent of Red Hand of Doom.

Would much prefer to see classic stuff updated and done well rather than the continual need for
novelty. All the ‘original’ settings released since 3e/Pathfinder have fallen flat for me. Let me use what I have by updating the crux of it to the current ruleset.

WGR7 was going to cover the Great Kingdom, but it was cancelled when already complete (it was later uploaded to the WotC website for download).

Just wanted to chime in, WGR7 Ivid the Undying is among Carl Sargent’s top tier work. It is maybe the best source for material in the Great Kingdom.

I referenced it over and over when drawing my maps for the region. I ended up scouring the internet archive for WotC’s old free .rtf of it so I could reformat it into an epub file for easy reading on my ebook reader. (The .pdf of it is painful reading on a tablet)

Just love Ivid the Undying and it is a sad thing it never got to be published with art.

When they literally have completely different and non-overlapping magical powers, different lifespans, and visibly different physiology (e.g. Eladrin eyes glow, some Elves can grow facial hair, etc.), it's rather more obviously distinct than "these are elves who come from the west and those are elves who come from the south."

Not sure who would be the equivalent for GH, but man if WoTC opens it up on dmsguild and an Ed Greenwood type GH writer created new content, I’d be quick to purchase it like I did with Ed’s stuff for forgotten realms.

Orcs are territorial and warlike, but a small number of them instead opt to live and work with other races instead of fighting them. They just don't need an infusion of human juice to do that.

In GH, orcs were commonly used by some nations as mercenaries both currently and in the past. Some of orcs never left the nations that hired them and have settled there.
